Baishi Lake Leisure Agriculture Zone Introduction

Baishi Lake - The Origin of the Name When we mention "Baishi Lake," we must first understand the origin of its name! It is said that early settlers referred to the naturally formed low-lying areas in the mountains as "lakes." At the same time, the area produced abundant white sandstone, which led to the name "Baishi Lake." Therefore, "Baishi Lake" is actually not a lake! During the late Qing Dynasty, a quarry was established in the Neihu mountainous area. The materials for building the Taipei City Wall were sourced from here. Due to its strategic location, Baishi Lake was also the site of battles fought between Lin Shuangwen's anti-Qing faction and Qing troops in March of the 52nd year of Qianlong's reign (1787). It was also inhabited by the Ketagalan community. The Ketagalan community originally spread across the west bank of the Keelung River in Songshan; affected by Han Chinese encroachment during the Qing Dynasty, they gradually migrated to the Baishi Lake area and were renamed the "New Li Tribe" to distinguish them from the "Old Li Tribe" in Songshan. Today, the Ketagalan community has integrated into Han society and disappeared. After the restoration of Taiwan, due to the presence of the Biyuan Temple, the area was renamed "Bishan Village" and officially changed to "Bishan Li" in the 57th year of the Republic of China, a name it retains to this day. Surrounded by Mountains - The Baishi Lake community, embraced by mountains, has a developmental history dating back over 200 years to the Qianlong period. It is surrounded by Bishan, Baishi Lake Mountain, Daluntou Mountain, Kaiyan Mountain, Dajian Mountain (now known as Zhongyong Mountain), and Xiaojian Mountain (now known as Yuanjue Mountain) and is the highest altitude community in the Neihu District (approximately 250 to 450 meters). The Baishi Lake area features a valley terrain with a subtropical broadleaf forest ecosystem. In addition to being suitable for developing leisure agriculture, the area is integrated with surrounding hiking trails like Baishi Lake Mountain, Daluntou Mountain, Kaiyan Mountain, and Longchuan Rock, making it a fresh mountain retreat for local residents and a weekend getaway for Taipei citizens. Other recreational highlights in the Baishi Lake area include the Baishi Lake Suspension Bridge, Houhu Wetland (Concentric Circle Ecological Wetland), Guchui Pond, Husband and Wife Trees, and the Huang's Historic Residence (Ziyun Residence). Neihu Strawberry Season From December to May each year, it is the strawberry season in the Neihu District of Taipei City, with peak production occurring between March and April. There are several strawberry farms in Neihu suitable for family outings or gatherings of friends and couples, with some offering various agricultural experiences such as strawberry jam DIY and brick oven pizza DIY, allowing visitors to enjoy delicious strawberries while appreciating the beautiful mountain scenery in Neihu.
