Located in Wuchi District, adjacent to Wuchi Old Street and Wenhua Road shopping district, the "original Wuchi police office and dormitory complex," a municipal designated historic site, officially opened to the public under the name "Wuchi Cultural Branch Office" on March 28, 2021. This heritage site, which spans nearly 90 years, witnesses the complete set of police institution systems and police buildings from the Japanese colonial period to the Kuomintang government period, as well as the rise and fall of Wuchi Port Street. Recently, it has also introduced "Taiwan's first historic site inn," allowing visitors to experience a unique perspective on Japanese culture in Taiwan. The Wuchi Cultural Branch Office, located in the center of Wuchi Old Street, is adjacent to the cultural road shopping district and the century-old Chaoyuan Temple. Its core concept is "one old house revitalizes one old street," using the sentiment of "telling stories through old houses and old streets" to connect cultural elements related to the port street. It plans a series of historic preservation, cultural education promotion activities, and reuse programs, aiming to jointly revive the old street with local residents through an old house, showcasing the irreplaceable charm of Wuchi Old Street as a century-old port street. The "original Wuchi police officer's office and dormitory complex" was built in the sixth year of the Showa era (1931).

Wuqi Cultural Center Introduction

Located in Wuqi District, adjacent to Wuqi Old Street and Cultural Road business district, the "Original Wuqi Police Station and Dormitory Group," designated as a municipal historic site, opened to the public on March 28, 2021, under the name "Wuqi Cultural Outreach Office." This historic site, spanning nearly 90 years, witnesses the complete framework of the police administration system and police office buildings from the Japanese colonial period to the Kuomintang government period, as well as the rise and decline of Wuqi Port Street. Recently, it has launched "Taiwan's First Historic Lodging," allowing visitors to experience unique aspects of Japanese culture in Taiwan. The Wuqi Cultural Outreach Office, located at the center of Wuqi Old Street, is adjacent to Cultural Road business district and the century-old temple Chaoyuan Temple, operating under the concept of "revitalizing an old street with an old building." It connects cultural elements related to the port street by telling stories through the historical house and plans a series of historic preservation, cultural education promotion activities, and reuse projects, aiming to revive the old street together with local residents, showcasing the irreplaceable century-old charm of Wuqi Old Street. The "Original Wuqi Police Station and Dormitory Group" was built in Showa 6 (1931) and was designated as a county historic site on November 8, 2010 (which became a municipal historic site after the city-county merger). It is one of the few historic sites in Taiwan that retains both police station buildings and dormitory groups. The area includes the police station building combined with dormitories, double brick dormitories, single wooden dormitories, single brick dormitories, and air-raid shelters. The current address is No. 142 Wuqi Road, built in Showa 6 (1931), with only the "Police Station Building Combined with Dormitory (Building A)" having experienced the Dung Tsai Kiao Earthquake in Showa 10 (1935); the remaining buildings were constructed after that earthquake. In addition to guided tours, exhibitions of port street customs, and art exhibitions, the site plans to offer various Japanese cultural experiences such as kimono experiences, ema for blessings at the prayer pavilion, and lucky poetry lots. Notably, the Wuqi Cultural Outreach Office is also Taiwan's first legally recognized historic lodging, where people can personally experience a day's life in a unique Japanese historic building and savor the cultural ambiance of the heritage site.
