This historic site, spanning nearly 90 years, witnessed the complete integration of police administration systems and police stations from the Japanese occupation period to the Nationalist government period, as well as the rise and fall of Wuchi Port Street. Recently, it even launched "Taiwan's First Historic Site B&B," providing tourists with a more diverse perspective to experience unique Taiwanese-Japanese culture. With the sentiment of "Old House, Old Street Telling Stories," it connects cultural elements related to the port street and plans a series of historic preservation, cultural education promotion activities, and reuse initiatives, aiming to revive the old street together with local residents through one old house, showcasing the irreplaceable century-old charm of Wuchi Old Street. Wuchi Cultural Affairs Office Introduction

Located in Wuci District and adjacent to Wuci Old Street and Cultural Road business district, the "Historic Monument Former Wuci Police Station and Dormitory Complex" officially began operations on March 28, 2021, under the name "Wuci Cultural Outpost." This historical site, spanning nearly 90 years, bears witness to the complete set of police systems and offices from the Japanese colonial period to the National Government period, as well as the rise and fall of Wuci Port Street. Recently, it has introduced "Taiwan's first historic monument guesthouse," allowing visitors to experience unique Japanese cultural elements in a more diverse manner. The Wuci Cultural Outpost is located in the center of Wuci Old Street, close to the Cultural Road business district and the century-old Chaoyuan Temple. Centered on the concept of "revitalizing an old street with an old building," it aims to connect cultural elements related to the port street through storytelling from old buildings and old streets, and plans a series of activities for monument preservation, cultural education promotion, and reuse projects. The hope is to revitalize the old street in collaboration with local residents, showcasing the irreplaceable charm of the century-old port street in Wuci. The "Historic Monument Former Wuci Police Station and Dormitory Complex" was built in the sixth year of the Shōwa era (1931) and was designated as a county historic monument on November 8, 2010 (after the merger of counties and cities, it became a city historical monument). It is one of the few monuments in Taiwan that preserves both the police station office and dormitory complex. The site includes the police station office combined with dormitory, double-brick dormitories, single-unit wooden dormitories, single-unit brick dormitories, and an air-raid shelter. The current address is 142 Wuci Road, built in Shōwa 6 (1931). Among existing structures, only the "Police Station Office Combined with Dormitory (Building A)" experienced the Duncankou earthquake in Shōwa 10 (1935), while the rest of the buildings were constructed after that earthquake. Besides guided tours of the historic site, themed exhibitions on port street culture, and art exhibitions, it also plans to offer kimono experiences, prayer pavilion ema, and fortune poetry slips, among various Japanese cultural experiences. Notably, the Wuci Cultural Outpost is also the first legal guesthouse in a historic monument in Taiwan, allowing people to personally experience daily life within this unique Japanese historic site, savoring its cultural charm.
