Ocean Hakka Fishing Net Culture Museum Introduction
The Ocean Hakka Fishing Culture Museum officially opened on June 19, 2020. In Xinyu District, the Hakka population accounts for over 80%, making it a genuine Hakka village that preserves many ways of life distinct from those in the Hakka villages near the mountains. It has developed a unique "farming the sea" culture, where "Qianwu" represents a cooperative and shared fishing practice among the ancestors of Hakka people in Taoyuan. This not only holds traditional fishing's heritage value but also highlights the spirit of unity and mutual assistance among the Hakka community. The museum is a three-story building in blue and white, featuring installations such as fishing nets and painted buoys outside. The first floor houses experiential areas for agriculture and fishing, as well as a section for the sale of agricultural products, where visitors can make reservations to taste authentic "Qianwu rice." An ecological aquarium displays various adorable marine creatures. The second floor consists of a small indoor bar and an outdoor relaxation area. The third floor preserves a military observation post, providing a stunning view of Qianwu Bay. The museum showcases historical photographs of Qianwu, fishing gear, and valuable agricultural and fishery artifacts, making it worth a visit. In addition to enjoying authentic Qianwu-style meals, visitors can gain a deeper understanding of Hakka maritime traditional culture through the exhibits related to the ocean and Hakka lifestyle.
