Caonan Wetlands Introduction
The Caonan Wetlands cover an area of approximately 3 hectares, featuring over 200 species of woody and herbaceous plants, as well as more than ten species of aquatic plants. It is home to a rich variety of birds, frogs, dragonflies, and damselflies year-round, making it a valuable wetland in central Taiwan that deserves enhanced conservation efforts and provides opportunities for ecological education and tourism. The recreational facilities in the area, such as the Dragonfly Cage, Frog Presentation Room, and Surprise Bridge, are designed with ecological themes and have been voluntarily created and maintained by local residents, becoming favorites among visitors. Thanks to the residents' dedication to ecological preservation, the area around the wetland glimmers with fireflies each year in April and May, making it one of the few places in the Puli region for firefly watching. During the hot summer days, lotus flowers bloom, and the fields of lotus leaves sway in the gentle breeze, resembling green waves that relieve the heat. However, as the wetland is hidden under a canopy of trees, general visitors often find it difficult to access without a knowledgeable guide or local interpreter.
