Caonan Wetlands Introduction
Caonan Wetland covers an area of only about 3 hectares, yet it is home to over 200 species of woody and herbaceous plants, as well as more than ten species of aquatic plants. It boasts a rich variety of species including birds, frogs, dragonflies, and damselflies throughout the year, making it a valuable wetland in central Taiwan for enhanced conservation, ecological education, and tourism. Recreational facilities in the area, such as the Dragonfly Observation Deck, Frog Presentation Room, and Surprise Bridge, which embody ecological themes, are all created and maintained voluntarily by local residents, and are favorites among visitors. Due to the residents' commitment to ecological preservation, the wetland sparkles with fireflies around April and May, making it one of the few spots in the Puli area for firefly watching. In the sweltering summer days, the lotus flowers bloom splendidly, and the lotus leaves move like green waves in the gentle breeze, providing a refreshing escape from the heat. However, as the wetland is hidden under a canopy of trees, general visitors often find it difficult to access without the guidance of a knowledgeable local or tour guide.
