Caonan Wetlands Introduction

Caonan Wetland covers an area of only about 3 hectares, yet it boasts over two hundred species of woody and herbaceous plants, as well as more than ten species of aquatic plants. The variety of species, including birds, frogs, dragonflies, and damselflies, is abundant throughout the year, making it a valuable wetland in central Taiwan that deserves enhanced conservation and offers opportunities for ecological education and tourism. The ecological-themed recreational facilities in the area, such as the dragonfly cage, frog briefing room, and "Surprise Bridge," are all created and maintained voluntarily by local residents, and they are also favorites among visitors. Due to the residents' dedication to ecological preservation, the wetland is a rare spot for firefly watching in the Puli area during April and May when the surroundings glow with fireflies. In the hot summer, the lotus flowers bloom, and the broad lotus leaves sway like green waves in the gentle breeze, providing a refreshing relief from the heat. However, since the wetland is hidden beneath a canopy of trees, general visitors often find it challenging to access without guidance from a knowledgeable local or tour guide.
