Hengshan Eagle Watching Platform Introduction
The terrain of the Bagua Mountains is generally high in the south and low in the north, with the highest point of the entire Bagua Mountain Range (Bagua Plateau) located at "Hengshan," which has an elevation of 442.6 meters. Along the way in Hengshan, one can see the terraced landforms formed by the long-term sedimentation and cutting of the Zhuoshui River below. To the south, from the cliffs of Hengshan, one can also see the four levels of Puzhong, Songbai Pit, Chishui, and Dazhuang. Due to its high vantage point in the Hengshan area, visitors can overlook the Changhua Plain and the nearby cliffs and valleys, where eagles are often seen soaring through the nearby valleys, using updrafts, or making swift dives to catch prey in a display of bravery that is both spectacular and awe-inspiring. Around the time of the spring equinox in March, this is an excellent spot to observe gray-faced buzzards at the southern end of the Bagua Mountain Range. Whether migrating, hunting, soaring, or landing, they can be easily spotted; additionally, in the Hengshan area, other resident birds such as the Crested Serpent Eagle, Accipiter trivirgatus, and the Eastern Marsh Harrier can also be observed, so one doesn’t need to visit only in March for eagle watching.
