Hengshan Eagle Watching Platform Introduction
Located at the highest point of the Bagua Mountain Range, the Hengshan Eagle-Watching Platform, at an elevation of 442.6 meters, boasts a unique geographical advantage and broad vistas. It not only offers a stunning view of the Changhua Plain and the Zhuoshui River valley but is also an ideal spot for observing migratory raptors during the spring and autumn seasons. The ecological wonder of raptors creates an exciting spectacle, with eagles soaring in the sky. The most anticipated time at the Hengshan Eagle-Watching Platform is around the spring equinox; from mid-March to early April, this is the peak season for eagle watching. During this period, thousands of grey-faced buzzards form spectacular "eagle columns" and "eagle rivers," creating an astonishing sight. In addition to the grey-faced buzzard, the smaller red-bellied buzzard also migrates through in April, adding another highlight to the eagle-watching season. Resident birds like the mountain hawk-eagle, the sparrowhawk, and the crested serpent eagle are also commonly found here, providing bird lovers with year-round observation opportunities. The charm of the Hengshan Eagle-Watching Platform lies not only in observing raptors but also in exploring the rich natural scenery and diverse recreational facilities in the surrounding area. The eagle-watching trail extends from the platform to the Monkey Well Rest Area, allowing visitors to enjoy agricultural landscapes such as tea gardens, ginger farms, and pineapple fields along the way. The nearby County Road 139 is a well-known cycling route in central Taiwan, offering beautiful scenery and a leisurely biking experience. For those who wish to get closer to the forest landscapes, the Bagua Mountain area has also planned several hiking trails, such as the Tiao Shui Ancient Trail and the Tengshan Trail, providing a rich and layered natural experience.
