Zhushan (Station and Surroundings) Introduction
Due to its prominent terrain and wide view, every sunrise casts numerous rays of light, creating a spectacular sight, especially with the sea of clouds formed in the valley. Many tourists travel great distances just to witness this stunning phenomenon. During the Japanese colonial period, Zhu Mountain was already an important spot for sunrise watching, although at that time, access was limited to hiking trails to Zhu Mountain or Dongshan Peak. In 1971, the Forestry Bureau opened the Zhu Mountain Forest Road to replace the previous narrow paths. However, due to conflicts between vehicles and pedestrians, as well as air pollution, a railway was constructed in May 1984, regulating vehicle access. As the Zhu Mountain Line only operates in the early morning and quickly descends after sunrise, it is the highest train station in Taiwan and also the first station in the nation for daily commuting!
