Alishan was originally one of Taiwan's three major forests and was later developed into a national forest recreation area. On the shaded paths lined with ancient trees, visitors can absorb phytoncides and listen to the sounds of birds. Each year, during the flowering season, the entire mountain is covered in a colorful sea of flowers. The forest resources of Alishan encompass different climatic zones. Starting from the lowland tropical plants such as longan, betel nut, acacia, and bamboo groves, as you ascend the mountain, the scenery transforms into warm-temperate forests featuring Moso bamboo, high mountain tea gardens, and aiyu. Further up, the temperate forests reveal species such as Taiwan false cypress, Taiwan golden cedar, Huashan pine, Taiwan fir, and red cypress.
