Wuji Forest Introduction
Alishan was originally one of Taiwan's three major lumberyards, and later developed into a national forest recreation area. On the shaded paths beneath the towering ancient trees, one can absorb phytoncide and listen to the sounds of birds. Every year, during the flowering season, the entire mountain is covered with a colorful sea of flowers. The forest resources of Alishan encompass different climatic zones. Starting from the lowland tropical plants such as longan, betel nut, acacia, and bamboo groves, as one ascends the mountain, the scenery transforms into warm-temperate forests featuring Moso bamboo, highland tea plantations, and figs. Further up, in the temperate forests, one can see species such as Taiwan cedar, Taiwan cypress, Chinese red pine, Taiwan fir, and red cypress.
