Alishan was originally one of Taiwan's three major lumbering areas and was later developed into a national forest recreation area. On the shaded paths beneath ancient trees, visitors can absorb phytoncides and listen to the sounds of birds. Each year, during the blooming season, the entire mountain is adorned with a vibrant sea of flowers. Alishan's forest resources encompass different climatic zones. Starting from tropical plants such as longan, betel nut, acacia, and bamboo groves at the foothills, the scenery changes as one ascends the mountain to include warm-temperate forests with Moso bamboo, high-altitude tea plantations, and jelly figs. Further up, in the temperate forests, one can find species such as Taiwan white pine, Taiwan hinoki cypress, Taiwan red pine, and red cypress.

The forest resources of Alishan cover different climatic zones, starting from tropical plants such as longan, betel, acacia, and bamboo groves in the lowland areas. As one ascends, the scenery transforms into warm temperate forests featuring Moso bamboo, high mountain tea plantations, and aiyuzi. Further up, in the temperate forests, visitors can see species such as Taiwan Cypress, Taiwan Red Cypress, Mount Hwa Pine, Taiwan Fir, and Red Cedar.
