Weiliao Mountain Trail Introduction
Weiliao Mountain Trail is located at the border of Sandimen Township in Pingtung County and Maolin District in Kaohsiung City, near Daqin Bridge, with an elevation of about 1,427 meters. There are two trailheads: one starts from the industrial road next to Daqin Bridge, passing the "Jiyi Pavilion," where you can see the Laonong River towards Liugui and the Zhuokou River within Maolin. From there, you can climb to a viewpoint at an elevation of 1,150 meters, overlooking Maolin and Wanshan Tribe. To reach the triangular peak, there is a long steep slope that requires using ropes, making it a higher difficulty route. The second trailhead is at the 23.5K mark of the Shaxi Forest Road in Koushe. Starting from Shaxi Forest Road, the scenic views along the route are beautiful with rich flora and fauna. Ecological interpretation boards are set up along the trail. This route is a moderately challenging trail, with a one-way distance of 9.3 kilometers and an estimated round-trip time of about 7-8 hours. Weiliao Mountain is a training base for hikers, representing a high challenge for training physical strength, endurance, and perseverance, and is known as a "Minor Hundred Peaks." It is recommended to take half a day to a full day to complete the trail challenge, and hikers may bring trekking poles, gloves, and hiking shoes to adapt to the terrain changes. Additionally, ensure to prepare equipment and water supply, and check weather conditions before setting out.
