Weiliaoshan Trail Introduction
Weiliao Mountain Trail is located at the boundary between Sandimen Township in Pingtung County and Maolin District in Kaohsiung City, near Dajin Bridge, with an elevation of about 1,427 meters. There are two trailheads. The first one starts from the industrial road next to Dajin Bridge, passing by "Jiyi Pavilion," where you can see the Laonong River in the direction of Liugui and the Zhuokou River within Maolin. Then, it leads to a viewing platform at an elevation of 1,150 meters, where you can overlook Maolin and Wanshan Village. To reach the triangular peak, you must traverse a long steep slope that requires using ropes, making it a more challenging route. The second trailhead is located at the 23.5K mark of the Shaxi Forest Road in Koushe. Starting from Shaxi, the scenery along the way is beautiful, and the flora and fauna are rich. Ecological explanation boards are set up along the trail. This route is considered a medium to high difficulty challenge, with a one-way distance of 9.3 kilometers and a total round-trip time of about 7-8 hours. Weiliao Mountain serves as a training ground for hikers and is a high-challenge route for training physical strength, foot endurance, and willpower, often referred to as a "minor hundred peaks" trek. It is recommended to allocate half a day to a full day to complete the trail challenge. Hikers should consider bringing trekking poles, gloves, and hiking shoes to adapt to the varying terrain, and ensure proper equipment and hydration are prepared while paying attention to weather conditions before setting out.
