Weiliaoshan Hiking Trail Introduction

Wei Liao Mountain Hiking Trail is located at the border between Sandimen Township in Pingtung County and Maolin District in Kaohsiung City, near Dazhu Bridge. It stands at an elevation of approximately 1,427 meters and has two hiking entry points. The first entry point starts from the industrial road next to Dazhu Bridge, where hikers will pass by "Jiyi Pavilion" and can view the Laonong River towards Liugui and the Zhuokou River within Maolin. From there, hikers can ascend to a viewpoint at an elevation of 1,150 meters, offering a distant view of Maolin and Wanshan Village. To reach the triangular peak, hikers must navigate a long steep slope using ropes, making it a more challenging route. The second entry point is located at the 23.5K mark of Shaxi Forest Road in Koushe. Starting from Shaxi Forest Road, the scenery is beautiful and the ecology is rich in flora and fauna, with ecological interpretation boards set up along the trail. This route is classified as a medium to high difficulty challenge, covering a distance of 9.3 kilometers one way, with a round-trip time of about 7 to 8 hours. Wei Liao Mountain serves as a training base for hikers, providing a high-challenge route for training stamina, foot strength, endurance, and willpower, and is known as a "Small Hundred Peaks" trekking destination. It is recommended to spend half a day to a full day to complete the trail challenge, with essential gear such as trekking poles, gloves, and hiking shoes for adjusting to the terrain, and to prepare supplies and water before departure while paying attention to the weather conditions.
