Weiliaoshan Hiking Trail Introduction
Weiliao Mountain Trail is located at the boundary between Sandimen Township in Pingtung County and Maolin District in Kaohsiung City, near Daqin Bridge, with an elevation of approximately 1,427 meters. There are two main trailheads: the first starts from the industrial road next to Daqin Bridge, passing by "Jiyi Pavilion," where you can view the Laonong River towards Liukuei and the Zhuokou River within Maolin. You can then climb to the viewpoint at an elevation of 1,150 meters, offering expansive views of Maolin and Wanshan Village. To reach the triangular summit, there is a long steep slope that requires the use of ropes, making it more challenging. The second trailhead is located at the 23.5K mark of the Shaxi Forest Trail. Starting from the Shaxi Forest Trail, the scenery is beautiful and the flora and fauna are rich along the way. Ecological interpretation signs are set along the trail. This route is considered a moderate to challenging level, with a one-way distance of 9.3 kilometers and an estimated round trip time of about 7 to 8 hours. Weiliao Mountain is a training base for hikers and a high-challenge route for building physical strength, endurance, and determination, often referred to as a "Small Hundred Peaks" trail. It is recommended to spend half a day to a full day to complete the trail challenge. Hikers should carry trekking poles, gloves, and hiking shoes to adapt to changing terrain, and prepare adequate equipment and hydration, while keeping an eye on weather conditions before setting out.
