Zishali Trail Introduction

The entrance to the Zhisali Trail is located at the Purple Butterfly Ecological Park. To reach the entrance, you must follow the butterfly viewing trail. "Zhisali" in the Rukai language means "an area with many wild ginger plants." In the past, there were no names for places in the mountains; the indigenous ancestors named areas based on the trees or plants they observed growing there while farming. The trail is 3.7 kilometers long, but currently only 2.1 kilometers of the Maolin Ecological Park segment is open. This area is rich in bird and insect species and the entire walk takes about 50 minutes. It is also an important wintering congregation for the Common Eggfly butterfly. Visitors are advised not to capture or disturb habitats while enjoying butterfly watching and hiking. The recommended duration of stay is about 1.5 hours, and parking is available at the ecological park parking lot. Please do not disturb the surrounding environment during your visit.
