Zhi Sar Li Sar Trail Introduction
The entrance to the Zisali Trail is located at the Purple Butterfly Ecological Park. To reach the entrance, visitors must follow the Butterfly Watching Trail. Zisali in the Rukai language means "an area with many river plantains." Traditionally, there were no names for places in the mountains; the ancestors of the indigenous people named locations based on the trees or plants they observed while farming in the mountains. The trail is 3.7 kilometers long, but currently, only the section within the Maolin Ecological Park, approximately 2.1 kilometers, is open. This area is rich in bird and insect species, and the entire walk takes about 50 minutes. It is also an important congregation site for the Purple Crow Butterfly during winter. Visitors should refrain from over-collecting and damaging habitats while enjoying butterfly watching and hiking. It is recommended to spend about 1.5 hours here, and vehicles can be parked at the ecological park parking lot. Please do not harm the surrounding environment while enjoying the butterflies.
