Zhisali Trail Introduction

The Zishalishali Trail entrance is located at the Purple Butterfly Ecological Park, and one can reach the entrance by following the butterfly appreciation trail. "Zishalishali" means "a place with many torch ginger plants" in the Rukai language. In the past, there were no names for the mountains; the ancestors of the indigenous people named areas based on the trees or plants they observed while farming in the mountains. The trail is 3.7 kilometers long, but currently, only about 2.1 kilometers within the Maolin Ecological Park section is open. This area is rich in bird and insect species and takes about 50 minutes to walk the entire route. It is also an important gathering place for the common tiger butterfly during winter. Visitors should not engage in over-collecting or damage habitats while enjoying butterfly watching and hiking. It is recommended to spend about 1.5 hours here, and vehicles can be parked at the ecological park's parking lot. Please do not harm the surrounding environment while appreciating the butterflies.
