Datan Village Jingzhong Temple Introduction

Datan Village is the largest village in Xinguang Township, predominantly inhabited by the Lin family. According to legend, in the first half of the 17th century, a man of the Lin surname crossed the sea from Yongfengli in Nanjing County, bringing with him the protective spirit of the famous anti-Japanese general Yue Fei. Upon arriving at Datan Village, he initially worshipped at home, but as his descendants multiplied, they built a temple in the village to honor him, becoming the only Yue Wang Temple in Chiayi County, and also the first and oldest Jingzhong Temple in Taiwan dedicated to Yue Fei. Today, every year on the 15th day of the second lunar month, a grand ceremony is held in celebration of Yue Fei's birthday, attracting many villagers to worship at the Jingzhong Temple, which has become the spiritual center of the Datan villagers, enduring through the years.
