Datan Village Jingzhong Temple Introduction
Datan Village is the largest village in Xinkang Township, primarily inhabited by the Lin family. It is said that in the first half of the 17th century, a man named Lin traveled from Yongfeng Li, Nanjing County to Taiwan, bringing with him the protective spirit of the famous anti-Qing general Yue Fei. Upon arriving at Datan Village, he initially worshipped at home, but as his descendants multiplied, a temple was built in the village for worship, making it the only Yue Wang Temple in Chiayi County and the oldest Jingzhong Temple established in Taiwan. Today, every year on the 15th day of the second lunar month, in celebration of Yue Fei's birthday, Datan Village hosts grand rituals, and many villagers rush to the Jingzhong Temple to pay their respects to King Wu Mu Yue. The Jingzhong Temple has become the spiritual center for the residents of Datan Village, enduring through the years.
