Jinshui Elementary School Introduction

The Huang family of the Shuikou settlement places a strong emphasis on education. As the number of students in the settlement grew, the original family temple used as a lecture hall became insufficient. Consequently, the Huang family proposed the construction of a school, which was funded collectively by the overseas Chinese community of Shuikou. In 1932, Jinshui Elementary School was established. The school was designed with a traditional academy layout resembling the character "回" (hui), commonly known as a "fanzi house." At the time, it was the newest and largest Western-style elementary school in all of Kinmen. The facade of Jinshui Elementary School is ornate, featuring carvings of angels symbolizing purity and eagles soaring high. The interior is made of red brick columns, a homophone for "focus," reflecting the high expectations for the students.
