Beishan Old Western-style House Introduction
Beishan Old Western-style House was jointly built by the three brothers Li Jinyu, Li Yanya, and Li Tianzhu from Guningtou. The three of them achieved success in coconut trading in Manila, Philippines, and returned to their hometown in Beishan in 1928 to construct a large two-story house for their mother. In 1937, they built a two-story Western-style house, constructed with the help of craftsmen from Nan'an in Mainland China and local artisans including Li Yantou from Guningtou. Due to its high elevation and excellent visibility, it provided a panoramic view of every corner of the village, possessing significant strategic value. During the Battle of Guningtou, it was occupied by the Communist forces and became a command post, experiencing intense gunfire and shelling, serving as undeniable historical evidence of Kinmen being a frontline during the war. Today, the dilapidated roof and numerous bullet holes are still visible, yet the uniqueness of the house remains; the interior has been renovated into a backpacker hostel, offering travelers a comfortable resting environment, while the exterior still bears the scars of war, allowing visitors to almost hear the echoes of cannon fire passing by.
