Dadan Island Introduction
Dadan Island is part of Lieyu Township in Kinmen County. After arriving at Little Kinmen, visitors need to take a boat to reach the island. It is known as the "Secret Place in a War Zone" and was referred to as the frontline of the frontline during the period of military confrontation with Xiamen, as it is only 4,400 meters away. Dadan Island is small and flat, and after years of renovation, it was officially unveiled to tourists in 2019, allowing people to explore the past of this secret island. At Dadan Pier, there are many large banners proclaiming, "Dadan carries the burden, though alone on the island, one is not lonely" and "Loyalty spans the sun and moon, bravely shaking the mountains and rivers," which inspire respect. Shengming Road, approximately 500 meters long, is flanked by opposite mud sculptures of lions, comprising 212 pairs and 636 individual lions (male, female, plus cubs). The entire Dadan Island has a total of 491 pairs and 1,473 cement lion sculptures. Beishan Temple is located next to the Divine Chicken Grave, where the deity, the Supreme Emperor Xuantian, is enshrined. The statue was drifted to the island, and soldiers built a temple for it after retrieving the statue. The temple walls are inscribed with "A mountain need not be high; it is renowned with a deity; a temple need not be large; it is spiritual with sincere hearts," providing spiritual solace to the stationed soldiers. The most famous feature of Dadan Island is the Psychological Warfare Wall! Built in 1986, the giant wall is 3.2 meters high and 20 meters long, covered with military slogans, making it a popular attraction for mainland tourists visiting Xiamen. Nearby, there is an observation deck where visitors can use telescopes to see tourists on the opposite bank sailing along the coastline. The Beishan National Flag Platform is actually the trumpet fortress of the Dadan Broadcasting Station. This location offers the best view of Xiamen from Dadan Island, capturing sights from Dadan to Zhangzhou. The Dadan Broadcasting Station was established by the Great Wall troops in the 1950s and expanded in 1969, with soundwaves reaching up to 20,000 meters. Continuing along the pathways, visitors will see the same broadcasting speakers as on the Beishan Broadcasting Wall, with the highest point being the Beishan National Flag Platform, which offers excellent views. The Divine Fountain on the island is the life source of the garrison, said to have emerged from the ground after Zheng Chenggong thrust his sword into it, hence its name. There are five taboos associated with the fountain: no slaughtering, bathing, washing hair, fetching water from the edge of the well, or washing clothes and watering vegetables with the well water. There are also rumors that women who approach the fountain will suffer a decline in luck, and guides often advise against this, though the truth remains unknown. The Divine Fountain Tea House was built in 1991 using the island's abundant Casuarina equisetifolia. It serves as an important leisure spot on the island and as a hospitality venue for visiting dignitaries. The indoor walls display signatures and photographs of distinguished guests over the years.
