Dadan Island Introduction
Dadan Island is part of Lieyu Township in Kinmen County. After arriving at Little Kinmen, visitors need to take a boat to reach the island, which is also known as the "secret place within a battlefield." Due to its proximity of only 4,400 meters to Xiamen, during the military standoff between the two sides, it was regarded as the frontline of the front line. Dadan Island is small in size and has a flat terrain. After years of renovation, it was finally unveiled to tourists in 2019, allowing people to explore the past of this secret island. Upon arriving at Dadan Port, visitors are greeted by many large slogans that evoke respect: "Dadan carries the burden, the island is lonely but not the person" and "Loyalty extends to the sun and moon, courage shakes the mountains and rivers." Shengming Road is about 500 meters long, lined with opposing clay lion sculptures, totaling 212 pairs and 636 lions (including male, female, and cubs), while Dadan Island has a total of 491 pairs and 1,473 cement lion sculptures. Beian Temple is located next to the Divine Chicken Tomb, where the temple honors the Emperor Xuantian. It houses a statue that drifted to the island and was built a temple for after local soldiers found it. The temple's walls are inscribed with "Mountains do not need to be high; they become famous with a deity; temples do not need to be large; they are spiritual with sincere hearts," serving as a spiritual refuge for stationed soldiers. The most renowned feature of Dadan Island is the Psychological Warfare Wall! Built in 1986, the massive wall is 3.2 meters high and 20 meters long, covered with military slogans and a popular spot for mainland tourists visiting Xiamen. At an observation deck nearby, visitors can use telescopes to see tourists on the opposite coast cruising along the shoreline. The Beishan National Flag Platform is actually a loudspeaker fort of the Dadan Broadcasting Station, which also offers the best view from Dadan Island towards Xiamen. The sight extends from left to right, encompassing Erdan, San-dan, Si-dan, Wu-dan, and Zhangzhou. The Dadan Broadcasting Station was established by the Great Wall troops in the 1950s and expanded in 1969. Its sound waves can reach a distance of 20,000 meters. Walking further along the path, visitors will see loudspeakers similar to those on the Beishan Broadcasting Wall, with the highest point being the Beishan National Flag Platform, offering an excellent view. The Dadan Divine Spring is said to be the source of life for the island's garrison, rumored to emerge from the ground after Zheng Chenggong thrust his sword into it, hence its name. The Divine Spring has five prohibitions: no slaughtering, showering, washing hair, drawing water from the well railing, or washing clothes and watering vegetables with the well water near the spring. There are also rumors that women who approach the Divine Spring will experience a decline in fortune, which guides often advise against, though its truth remains uncertain. The Shenquan Tea House was built in 1991 and constructed with local casuarina wood. It serves as an important recreational space on the island and is a place to entertain visiting dignitaries. The walls indoors display inscriptions and photos from notable guests who have visited over the years.
