Bold Island Introduction
Dadan Island is part of Lieyu Township in Kinmen County. After arriving at Little Kinmen, you need to take a boat to access the island, which is known as "a secret within a secret in a battlefield." Due to its proximity of only 4,400 meters to Xiamen, this area was regarded as the frontline of the frontline during the military standoff between the two sides. Dadan Island is small and has a gentle terrain. After years of renovation, it finally unveiled its secrets to tourists in 2019, allowing visitors to explore the island's past. At Dadan Wharf, you will encounter large slogans like "Bravely carry the burdens of Dadan Island, the island is lonely but not abandoned" and "Loyalty spans the sun and moon, courage shakes the mountains and rivers," which inspire great respect the moment you set foot on the island. The Shengming Road, approximately 500 meters long, is lined with pairs of mud sculptures of lions, totaling 212 pairs and 636 individual lions (including male, female, and cubs). Throughout Dadan Island, there are a total of 491 pairs and 1,473 cement lion sculptures. Beishan Temple is located next to the Divine Chicken Tomb and is dedicated to the Emperor Xuantian of the North. The statue was found drifting ashore and was later enshrined in a temple built by soldiers who picked it up. The walls of the temple are engraved with the saying "The mountain doesn't need to be high; with a deity, it becomes famous; a temple doesn't need to be big; with sincere hearts, it becomes spiritual," serving as a psychological support for the stationed soldiers. The most famous attraction on Dadan Island is the Psychological Warfare Wall, built in 1986. Standing 3.2 meters tall and 20 meters long, this giant wall is inscribed with military slogans and is a popular sightseeing spot for tourists from mainland China visiting Xiamen. Nearby, you can find an observation deck to see tourists on the opposite shore cruising along the coastline through telescopes. The Beishan National Flag Platform, originally a horn fort for Dadan’s broadcasting station, is also the best spot for viewing Xiamen from Dadan Island. The vista stretches from left to right, encompassing Erdan, Sandan, Sidian, Wudian, and Zhangzhou. The Dadan Broadcasting Station was established by the Long Wall troops in the 1950s and was expanded in 1969, with sound waves reaching a distance of 20,000 meters. Continuing along the path will lead you to another broadcasting horn, and the highest point is the Beishan National Flag Platform, which boasts an excellent view. The Divine Spring on Dadan Island is said to be the "spring of life" for the garrison and is named as such because it supposedly flowed from the sword of Koxinga. There are five taboos associated with the Divine Spring: no slaughtering, showering, washing hair, fetching water over the well rail, or using the water for laundry and gardening. Additionally, it is rumored that women approaching the Divine Spring could bring bad luck, and tour guides generally advise against it, though the truth of these claims is uncertain. The Divine Spring Tea House, established in 1991, is built from the native casuarina wood and serves as an important leisure spot on the island, as well as a place for hosting visiting dignitaries.
