Mountain Legend Fresh Milk Mochi Introduction
Located in Neihu Village Old Street, "Shan Zhong Chuan Qi Fresh Milk Mochi" was established in April 2000. The name signifies the hope of selling different foods in Neihu and aims to become a legend in the area. Using pure fresh milk to create innovative Hakka delicacies—fresh milk mochi and fresh milk cow rinse mochi—these melt-in-your-mouth treats can be enjoyed by everyone from infants to the elderly, making them an essential souvenir when visiting Neihu. The famous "wet" mochi—cow rinse! This cow rinse mochi is a unique afternoon snack in Hakka villages. In the past, the Hakka community mostly lived in the foothills, and farmers would go up the mountain to farm, while Hakka women would use glutinous rice to pound the mochi at home, as glutinous rice is the best at staving off hunger. Why is the syrup made with brown sugar and ginger juice? For health reasons, brown sugar is used to combat heat (to prevent farmers from overheating while working in the mountains), and ginger juice is used to ward off the cold (because the mountainous areas are prone to northwest rains, which could leave farmers feeling cold). The name "cow rinse" refers to the snack made by placing the mochi in ginger juice, as its shape resembles that of water buffalo leisurely strolling in a pond during the early farming off-season, hence the name.
