Jingtong Old Street Red Gem Miner’s Restaurant Introduction
"Red Gem Mine Workers' Canteen" is located on Jing Tong Old Street in Pingxi District, New Taipei City, and was formerly the welfare society of the Shiti Mine. The owner of "Red Gem Mine Workers' Canteen" aims to recreate the mining scene of the early Republic of China by hanging large historic photographs of early miners at work, signs for tobacco and alcohol sales, and old movie posters, creating a strong retro vibe. In addition, they offer classic old-fashioned dishes such as miner's set meals, railway bento, and noodle tea that evoke many memories! Since "Red Gem Mine Workers' Canteen" is right next to Jing Tong Station, diners can enjoy the view of the old railway that has been in use since the early Republic of China. If you feel adventurous, you can step onto the railway and take the stairs to the remnants of the Shiti Coal Mine for a nostalgic experience.
