Yun Dun Gen Soup Introduction
The legendary "Yun Dun Gen" restaurant has been serving only one type of soup for decades, sparking curiosity among many. The name "Yun Dun Gen" signifies "movement" (運) referring to circulation, "dullness" (鈍) referencing the unhealthiness in the body, and "root" (根) symbolizing the strengthening of one's foundation and regenerative ability. The pronunciation of these three characters in Taiwanese also conveys similar meanings. Dining here is a unique experience; patrons start by drinking three bowls of soup on an empty stomach. The reactions that occur after absorbing the medicinal properties of the soup can indicate one’s health condition. Healthy individuals may experience hunger, while those with excessive liver heat may feel nauseous. Each person's reaction differs, and the restaurant has thoughtfully designed an elegant and comfortable space for guests to rest. To enjoy this special soup, reservations are required. Each pot is stewed for 8 hours with 50 types of precious herbs and rice wine, followed by the essence extracted from black-boned chicken stewed for an additional half hour. Being able to taste it is a blessing.
