Runji Temple Introduction
Runjei Temple is one of the larger temples in the Ankang area and a historic ancient temple. It serves as the religious center for the residents of the Ercheng area in "Ankang Inner Five Villages." The temple is dedicated to the "San Guan Da Di" (Three Officials), commonly known as "San Jie Gong," and also worships the "Jiu Tian Dao Zu" and "Wang Tian Jun." In its early years, this area was inhabited by the Atayal indigenous people, and the settlers who came here faced threats, prompting local leaders to advocate for the construction of the temple. It was established in the first year of the Tongzhi reign of the Qing Dynasty, initially built with grass thatch. The temple has undergone renovations and expansions three times, in 1913, 1923, and 1986. Behind the temple is the Runjei Temple Trail, which features a wooden path that climbs steeply, providing an unobstructed view of the ridge between Tu Tan Mountain and Huang Ku Mountain, as well as a bird’s-eye view of the Tou Cheng and Er Cheng areas.
