Dongshi Old Railway Station and Hakka Cultural Park Introduction
The Dongshi Hakka Cultural Park features a museum housed in the renovated former Dongshi Railway Station. The original structures, such as the platform and the rain shelter at the entrance to the waiting room, were removed due to their dilapidated condition during the renovation. However, the long benches where passengers waited are preserved in the exhibition room converted from the waiting area. Behind the Dongshi Hakka Museum is the Dongfeng Green Corridor cycling route, which is surrounded by lush greenery and offers a picturesque view of the mountain town in the distance, making it one of the new landmarks for tourism in Taichung County. The museum showcases Hakka artifacts and hosts periodic exhibitions related to Hakka culture. The park is also planned to feature themed exhibitions on food, clothing, housing, transportation, education, and entertainment related to the Hakka community, introducing industries, language, and cultural characteristics. The Dongshi Hakka Museum is located at the terminus of the Dongfeng Green Cycling Corridor and regularly hosts themed exhibitions that showcase the local specialties and cultural traits of the Dongshi area. Visitors passing through should not forget to check out the museum for the latest special exhibitions; unexpected discoveries can provide a nostalgic experience reminiscent of childhood.
