Dongshi Old Railway Station and Hakka Cultural Park Introduction
The Dongshi Hakka Cultural Museum, located in the Dongshi Hakka Cultural Park, is transformed from the old Dongshi Railway Station. The original facilities, such as the platform and the rain shelter at the entrance of the waiting room, were demolished due to their aging structure during the renovation. However, the long benches where passengers used to sit while waiting for trains were intentionally preserved in the newly converted exhibition hall. Behind the Dongshi Hakka Museum is the Dongfeng Green Corridor bicycle path, which offers lush green scenery and a distant view of beautiful mountainous towns, making it one of the new landmarks for tourism in Taichung City. The museum displays Hakka cultural artifacts and holds irregular exhibitions related to Hakka heritage. The park is also planned with themed exhibitions on aspects of Hakka life, including food, clothing, housing, transportation, education, and entertainment, introducing the local industry, language, and cultural characteristics. The Dongshi Hakka Museum is built from the former Dongshi Railway Station and serves as the endpoint of the Dongfeng Bicycle Green Corridor. Within the museum, there are occasional thematic exhibitions that spotlight the specialties and cultural features of the Dongshi area. If you happen to pass by, don’t forget to visit the museum to see what special exhibition is taking place today; you might discover unexpected treasures and relive memories of your childhood.
