Dongshi Old Railway Station and Hakka Cultural Park Introduction
The Dongshi Hakka Cultural Museum, located in the Dongshi Hakka Cultural Park, has been transformed from the old Dongshi train station. During the renovation, the aging structures such as the original platform and the shelter at the entrance of the waiting room were demolished. However, the long benches where passengers used to wait for trains have been preserved in the exhibition room converted from the waiting area. Behind the museum is the Dongfeng Green Corridor bicycle path, surrounded by lush greenery and offering views of the scenic mountain town in the distance, making it one of the new landmarks for tourism in Taichung County. The museum features Hakka cultural artifacts and holds periodic exhibitions related to Hakka culture, including themes around food, clothing, housing, transportation, education, and leisure. It introduces industries, languages, and cultural characteristics. The Dongshi Hakka Cultural Museum, which was built from the former Dongshi train station, is also the endpoint of the Dongfeng Bicycle Green Corridor. Inside the museum, there are regular thematic exhibitions showcasing the local specialties and cultural features of the Dongshi area. Visitors passing through this place should not forget to check out what special exhibition is on display today, as it may offer unexpected delights and a taste of childhood memories.
