Kinmen Bridge Introduction
The Kinmen Bridge, located in Dongshi District, originally had only a gentle stream flowing between the two banks, requiring residents on both sides to wade across. To ensure the safety of the elderly, women, and children, the bridge was built in the 15th year of the Showa era (1940 AD). However, due to the outbreak of the Pacific War at that time, all cement was requisitioned, forcing local people to use materials such as glutinous rice, lime, and brown sugar to create a binding mixture. This resulted in a flexible structure that sustained no damage during the 921 earthquake. The unique construction methods and design possess considerable historical value, especially in terms of ensuring the safety of local residents.
