金門橋

The Kinmen Bridge located in Dongshi District originally had only a gentle stream flowing across its banks, and residents on both sides relied on wading through the water to interact. In order to ensure the safety of the elderly and children, the bridge was constructed in the 15th year of the Showa era (1940). Due to the outbreak of the Pacific War at that time, all cement was requisitioned, which forced the local people to use glutinous rice, lime, and brown sugar to create a kind of adhesive. This resulted in a flexible structure that remained undamaged even during the 921 Earthquake. Its unique construction method and shape have significant preservation value, especially for the safety of the local residents.

Kinmen Bridge Introduction

The Kinmen Bridge located in Dongshi District originally had only a gentle stream flowing between its banks, requiring local residents to wade across for interaction. To ensure the safety of the elderly, women, and children, the bridge was constructed in 1940 (Showa 15). During that time, the outbreak of the Pacific War led to the requisitioning of all cement, forcing local people to use ingredients like glutinous rice, lime, and brown sugar for construction, resulting in its elastic properties. Remarkably, it sustained no damage even during the 921 earthquake. The unique construction method and design hold significant preservation value, particularly for the safety of the local residents.
