Kinmen Bridge Introduction
The Kinmen Bridge located in Dongshi District originally had only a gentle stream flowing between both sides, with residents relying on wading across for interaction. In order to ensure the safety of the elderly, women, and children, the bridge was constructed in the 15th year of the Shōwa era (1940). However, due to the outbreak of the Pacific War at that time, all cement was requisitioned, forcing locals to use glutinous rice, lime, and brown sugar to create a glue-like mixture. This unique composition gives the bridge elasticity, allowing it to withstand the 921 earthquake without any damage. The special construction technique and form of the bridge are of considerable preservation value, especially for the safety of the local residents.
