Tsai's Mullet Roe Introduction

Established for over 20 years, our restaurant specializes in "Kaohsiung Black Gold," which refers to mullet roe and mullet fish maw. Each year, two weeks before and after the winter solstice, mullet return from the North Sea to spawn in the waters off Kaohsiung, and the mullet caught during this time are the fattiest (a year-end bonus granted by the sea to the fishermen). After skillfully extracting the mullet roe, it is dried under the winter sun, rich in deep-sea DHA, and is popular among both domestic and international tourists, especially favored by Japanese tourists as the best souvenir. Mullet maw, the stomach of the mullet, is cleaned and sun-dried before being roasted, offering a chewy texture and an unforgettable taste.
