The creator Ma Qiu belongs to the Kadi Bu tribe in Zhiben, Taitung, and is part of the Puyuma ethnic group, specifically the "Shih Sheng" lineage. Varasa means "stone" in the Puyuma language. Born from stone and ending with stone, it was at the age of forty that Ma Qiu found a way to express and showcase his life through stone.
