In Tainan, there is a saying, "Even grassland flies want to taste the county's fragrant cake," where "county" refers to the Cheng Huang Temple area, and "county fragrant cake" refers to the fragrant cakes sold by "Jiu Lai Fa." These delicacies, considered unattainable, may be something that rural folks can't afford, or it might imply that one wouldn't understand their taste even if they tried. In any case, fragrant cakes were regarded as a luxury food at that time. "Jiu Lai Fa" still insists on making cakes and rice snacks using traditional wood-fired red brick ovens. Their signature products include sugar cakes, sha xi cakes, crystal cakes, and black and white sugar fragrant cakes.
