Yilan Distillery (Jiazi Lanjiu Cultural Museum) Introduction
Yilan Distillery was established in 1909. In the early days, Yilan was also known as Kǎzǐ Lán, Gā Mǎ Lán, and Hāzǐ Lán, hence the distillery's museum was named after Kǎzǐ Lán when it opened to the public in 1998. Yilan Distillery is currently the oldest distillery in Taiwan, with its main product being Red Glutinous Rice Wine. Red Glutinous Rice Wine has won a silver medal in international competitions and is considered a beverage with high nutritional value. The main ingredient of this wine is red yeast rice, thus the museum features various delicacies and derivative products like red yeast sausages, red yeast rice cakes, red yeast wine vinegar, red yeast sauce, Red Glutinous Black Dates, and Red Glutinous Longan Rice Cake Popsicles, showcasing local characteristics of Yilan. The museum, converted from an old material warehouse, has mottled walls and a strong historical atmosphere, as well as a unique waterfall wall made from old wine jars. Visitors can not only smell the aroma of wine and taste delicious food but also tour the Wine Museum, Red Yeast Hall, Wine Bank, and Red Glutinous Art Gallery. By applying for special guided tours, visitors can also explore wine cellars and other production facilities to understand the entire wine production process. After visiting Yilan Distillery, you can also stroll over to nearby attractions like the Yilan Government Memorial Hall and the Yilan Literature Museum for a fulfilling day rich in cultural experiences.
