Shimen Reservoir Introduction
Shimen Reservoir was once the largest reservoir in the Far East and is currently one of the important reservoirs in northern Taiwan. Throughout the year, the picturesque scenery of the lake and mountains captivates visitors. Shimen Reservoir is connected to several tourist attractions, with its expansive parks and lush greenery featuring bicycle paths and lake cruises, providing diverse recreational activities for travelers. Popular attractions within the area include the dam, spillway, lake pier, Xizhou Park, Maple Forest Park, and Nanyuan Ecological Park. Shimen Reservoir is also a great place for flower viewing. In winter, the maple leaves turn a brilliant gold, while the plum blossoms create a white sea of flowers, offering a stunning sight. When spring arrives, peach blossoms, cherry blossoms, and azaleas compete for attention. During the rainy season, the dam's floodgates opening present a spectacular scene that draws many visitors. Shimen Reservoir also features the Shimen Dam Pier and Amuping Pier, where travelers can take boat rides around the lake and enjoy the majestic views of the reservoir. Shimen live fish is the most famous culinary delight here, with each restaurant offering its own unique signature dishes, amounting to nearly 200 different ways to prepare it.
