Fengshan Presbyterian Church Introduction
Walking at the intersection of Zhongzheng Road and Guangfu Road in Fengshan District, one’s gaze is drawn to the towering Gothic-style European architecture on the skyline. This elegant and beautiful white church is the historic Fengshan Presbyterian Church. Established in 1867 by Dr. James Laidlaw Maxwell of the Scottish Presbyterian Church, who began missionary work by purchasing land at the North Gate of Fengshan, it is the predecessor of the Fengshan Presbyterian Church. After several renovations, it has taken on its current appearance. The high Gothic twin-tower structure is graceful and elegant, with spires reaching for the sky. The massive simple cross on the facade carries a stabilizing power, and the fan-shaped long staircase accentuates the church's solemnity and uniqueness. Around Christmas time, the church lights up with colorful lights and decorates a Christmas tree, transforming the winter nights in Fengshan with vibrant and joyful festive colors. Additionally, the church is located at the North Gate of ancient Fengshan, which adds to its historical and cultural significance.
