Fengyi Academy Introduction
Fengyi Academy, located next to Chenghuang Temple, was built in 1814 and designated as a Level 3 historic site in 1985. It was constructed by Zhang Ting-Qin, a candidate for the head instructor in Fengshan. At that time, it had 37 rooms and originally housed the deities of Wenchang, Kuichang, and Cangsheng, along with tables and chairs, serving as a place for students to prepare for the imperial examinations. The architectural details are highly meticulous, and it is the largest existing academy in Taiwan. The wall of the entrance hall and the stone drums on either side of the main entrance both demonstrate the careful consideration given to the initial design of Fengyi Academy. After restoration was planned in 2009, the grounds were enhanced with many Q-version sculptures and two exhibition spaces were established to provide detailed information on the academy's history and cultural artifacts, blending education with entertainment.
