Tiger Head Mountain Geographic Center Monument Park Introduction
Hutoushan Geographic Center Monument Park is located in Hu-tou Mountain, Puli Township, Nantou County, at an altitude of approximately 555 meters. It is the geographic geometric center of Taiwan and one of the famous landmarks in Puli. The park features the Taiwan Geographic Center Monument, which is grand in design, surrounded by two white arched walls, with a three-meter tall ocher-colored plaque in the center, topped by a stainless steel rod with two intersecting circular rings, resembling a partially opened lily flower, symbolizing purity and vitality. The monument is inscribed with the words "Shan Qing Shui Xiu" (山清水秀) written by former President Chiang Ching-kuo, highlighting the beautiful natural environment of the Puli Basin. In 2020, the park was incorporated into the Sun Moon Lake National Scenic Area, undergoing extensive renovations that added parking lots, public restrooms, landscaping, and a high-altitude viewing platform to provide a better recreational experience. The first-class triangulation point of the Taiwan Geographic Center in the park is an important astronomical measurement and satellite tracking station in the country, surrounded by steel sculptures themed around butterflies and flowing water, showcasing Puli's rich natural ecology and local characteristics. Visitors can ascend approximately 400 stone steps behind the monument to reach the summit of Hutoushan, where the Taiwan Geographic Center astronomical triangulation point is located, along with ancient pine forests and open grassy areas offering a broad view of the entire Puli Basin, making it an excellent spot for watching the sunrise, sunset, and night scenery. Close to the summit of Hutoushan, there is also a paragliding launch site that attracts many flying enthusiasts on weekends. The Hutoushan Geographic Center Monument Park not only holds significant geographic and measurement importance but also integrates natural beauty and cultural art, making it a beloved tourist destination in Puli. The park is open year-round, providing complete facilities and convenient transportation, making it suitable for visitors who enjoy hiking, photography, and ecological observation.
