Dharma Drum Mountain Introduction
Dharma Drum Mountain, founded by Master Sheng Yen, is a Buddhist educational park that integrates education, practice, and culture, recognized as one of the four major Buddhist venues in Taiwan. The geographical features of Dharma Drum Mountain resemble a large horizontal drum, inspired by the metaphor of "striking the great Dharma drum" from the Lotus Sutra. The name "Dharma Drum" symbolizes the hope that the sound of Dharma will resonate like the evening drum and morning bell, allowing people to perceive the invisible power of Buddhism and enabling those who have never seen the Dharma to witness it. It is anticipated that everyone can benefit from the Three Jewels of Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha, bathing in the rain of compassion and wisdom, transforming human society into a healthy, peaceful, and harmonious paradise. The architecture of the park mainly features shades of brown, gray, and white, paying homage to the earth and reflecting the stable and serene qualities of Buddhism. It draws inspiration from significant Buddhist holy sites worldwide, including ancient temples in China, cave temples, and religious cultural relics from Japan, India, and Europe and America, extracting architectural characteristics and spiritual essence. The design encompasses a lively yet tranquil atmosphere, blending seamlessly with the natural environment through an ecological approach, built according to the contours of the mountains, with distinct layers, revealing a spacious ambiance in its understated manner. Dharma Drum Mountain is a site dedicated to Guanyin Bodhisattva and is a stronghold of Chinese Chan Buddhism.
