Chih-Feng Residence (Li Chih-Feng Historical House) Introduction
Located in the Jinshan District of New Taipei City, the Li Qifeng Ancient Residence is a Minnan-style Sanheyuan (three-section compound) with a history of about 200 years. It is one of the best-preserved and most splendid examples of Minnan architecture in the northern coast region. The owner of Qifeng House, Li Bu, immigrated from Zhangzhou in 1802 to cultivate land in Taiwan, starting from scratch and becoming very wealthy, reportedly the richest and most prominent family in areas such as Jinxia and Jinbaoli at that time. Stepping into Qifeng House, one encounters a crescent-shaped pond in the front and an orchard in the back, with the ancient Feng Shui design reflecting the aspirations for wealth and prosperity. According to the customs of the Qing Dynasty, commoners' houses were not allowed to have "flying tail" eaves; only officials or those who passed the imperial examinations were entitled to build houses with such decorative roofs. However, Qifeng House showcases elegant eaves, highlighting the power and achievements of its owner. The cut and paste decorations on the roof are also meticulously crafted. Currently, Qifeng House is still inhabited, and visitors are welcome to explore as long as they do not disturb the residents.
