Zhongjiao Bay Visitor Center Introduction
Located at 39 kilometers on Taiwan Highway 2, Zhongjiao Bay has a concave sandy shoreline at the bay entrance, complemented by the impressive high waves created by the seasonal northern winds, making it the most well-known surfing paradise on the northern coast. Every holiday, many surfers gather here, riding the winds and waves, showcasing a unique surfing spectacle. To enhance the surfing environment in Zhongjiao Bay and promote tourism development in the northern coast, and in response to surfing being included as one of the five new competition events in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Premier Su Tseng-chang inspected Zhongjiao Bay on January 18, 2019, along with the Ministry of Transportation, the Ministry of Education, and New Taipei City Mayor Hou You-ih, designating Zhongjiao Bay as an international surfing training base for cultivating and training surfing athletes. Subsequently, on January 25, 2019, Minister of Transportation Lin Chia-lung convened relevant units including the Ministry of Education, the Council of Agriculture (now the Ministry of Agriculture), the National Development Council, the Ministry of Transportation, the Highway Administration (now the Highway Bureau), and the Tourism Bureau (now the Tourism Administration) to coordinate and establish a surfing training base centered at Zhongjiao Elementary School. Plans were made to build a visitor center and surfing service center beside the beach at Zhongjiao Bay without damaging the topography, positioning Zhongjiao Bay as an "international surfing base." On December 22, 2019, the Zhongjiao Bay international surfing base was officially inaugurated, with Premier Su Tseng-chang attending the opening ceremony, expressing hopes for Zhongjiao Bay to become an international surfing sanctuary, attracting surfing enthusiasts from both domestic and abroad. There are also aspirations to cultivate more surfing talents through Zhongjiao Elementary School and Jinshan Senior High School, to bring glory to the country in international competitions.
