Henglong Ancient Trail Introduction
1. Location: Qing'an Village, Tai'an Township 2. Start and End: Longshan Tribal Community, Tai'an Township ~ North Peak Triangulation Point of Henglong Mountain 3. Trail Length: Approximately 2 kilometers, Walking Time: About 90 minutes one way. The Henglong Ancient Trail was originally a hunting path used by the Atayal people of Longshan Tribal Community (Siwasik) and is also known as the Siwasik Ancient Trail. This trail served as a route for communication between Longshan Tribal Community and the Lu-Chang Tribal Community in Nan-Guang. Along the ancient trail, visitors can see vine tunnels and bamboo groves, enveloped in greenery, creating a tranquil and elegant atmosphere. Occasionally, bamboo fences and pheasants leap from the bushes, bringing delightful surprises. Starting from County Road 62 through Longshan Tribal Community and Henglong Mountain Industrial Road, reaching the end of the industrial road leads to the entrance of the Henglong Ancient Trail. A giant stone pillar at the trailhead is engraved with the words "Henglong Ancient Trail." Following the stone steps, the trail zigzags upward. After climbing onto a platform of about one hundred pings, with stone steps nearby, this area represents a historic site left by the Japanese during their suppression of the Atayal people, where the foundations and low walls serve as a witness to history. Continuing north, the serene scenery allows one to appreciate the dense growth of cedar and camphor trees on either side. Further ahead, to the right, is another platform similar to the previous one, known as the Old Site of the Fort. Soon, sandy stone steps wind along the trail, leading to an observation deck, where one can gaze out westward at Dahu, Zhuolan, and Tongluo, with a dreamy view of the clouds intertwined with green hills. Returning to the trail and continuing forward, the mountain peak comes into view ahead. At this point, the path narrows and steepens, with impressive vertical cliffs visible on the right. Along the way, there is a platform for resting before reaching the summit, where a triangulation point known as North Peak of Henglong Mountain stands, marking the end of the Henglong Ancient Trail. The summit offers a great view, with Hushan and Shei-Pa National Park in the distance. If one descends from the summit toward the north slope, a stone base can be seen, known by Longshan residents as the White Garrison Site, referring to the Old Site of the Fort, quietly recounting its historical past.
