Henglong Ancient Trail Introduction
1. Location: Qing'an Village, Tai'an Township 2. Start and End: Longshan Tribal Area, Tai'an Township ~ Henglongshan North Peak Triangular Point 3. Trail Length: Approximately 2 kilometers, walking time: about 90 minutes one way Henglong Ancient Trail was originally a mountain path used by the Atayal people of Longshan Tribal Area (Siwasik) for hunting, also known as Siwasik Ancient Trail. This route also facilitates communication between Longshan Tribal Area and the Nanzhuang Luchang Tribal Area. Along the ancient trail, visitors can see vine tunnels and bamboo groves, surrounded by greenery that creates a serene and elegant atmosphere; occasionally, a bamboo fence or a pheasant may leap out from the bushes, bringing delightful surprises. From County Road 62, which passes through Longshan Tribal Area and the Henglongshan Industrial Road, the entrance to the Henglong Ancient Trail is located at the end of the industrial road. A giant stone pillar at the trailhead is engraved with the words "Henglong Ancient Trail." Following the stone steps, the path zigzags upward. After about a hundred pings, a platform appears, surrounded by stone steps. This area served as a garrison built by the Japanese to suppress the Atayal people, with remnants of foundations and low walls standing as historical evidence. Continuing north, the scenery is tranquil as one admires the dense growth of "wood" trees and camphor trees on both sides. Further ahead, there is another platform similar in structure to the previous one, known as the old site of the garrison. Soon, sandstone steps meander along the trail, leading to a lookout point where one can gaze westward at Dahu, Zhuolan, and Tongluo, surrounded by a misty sea of clouds entwined with lush mountains, resembling a fairyland. Back on the trail, continuing forward, the mountain peak can be faintly seen ahead. At this point, the path narrows and steepens; looking to the right reveals the spectacular steepness of the cliff face. Along the way, there is a platform for resting. Upon reaching the mountain top, there is a triangulation point known as Henglongshan North Peak, the end point of the Henglong Ancient Trail. The summit offers a great view, with Hushan and Shei-Pa National Park visible in the distance. If you head down the gentle slope from the summit to the north, you will see a stone base referred to as the "White Garrison" by the Longshan Tribal people, which is the old site of the garrison, quietly narrating the past history.
