Henglong Ancient Trail Introduction
1. Location: Qing'an Village, Tai'an Township 2. Route: Longshan Village, Tai'an Township to the Triangulation Point of the Northern Peak of Henglong Mountain 3. Trail Length: About 2 kilometers, Walking Time: Approximately 90 minutes one way The Henglong Ancient Trail was originally a path used by the Tayal people from the Longshan Village Siwasik for hunting, also known as the Siwasike Ancient Trail. This trail serves as a connection between Longshan Village and the Luchang Village of Nanwan. Along the trail, visitors can see vine tunnels and bamboo groves surrounded by lush greenery, providing a serene and elegant atmosphere. Occasionally, bamboo fences and pheasants may spring from the thickets, offering delightful surprises. Traveling along County Road 62 through Longshan Village and the Henglong Mountain Industrial Road, you will reach the trailhead of the Henglong Ancient Trail at the end of the industrial road. The massive stone pillar at the trailhead is engraved with the words "Henglong Ancient Trail". Following the stone steps, the path zigzags upward. After about a hundred pings, you will arrive at a platform where stone steps are visible around you. This place served as a monitoring station built by the Japanese to suppress the Tayal people, with remnants of its foundation and low walls left as historical witness. Continuing north, the tranquil scenery allows you to admire the dense growth of wood and camphor trees on both sides. Further ahead, there is another platform that resembles the previous one, known as the site of the old guardhouse. Not long after, sandstone steps wind along the trail, leading to a viewpoint where you can gaze westward at Dahu, Zhuolan, and Dongluo, with the sea of clouds intertwining with the lush green mountains in a scene reminiscent of a fairyland. Returning to the trail and continuing forward, the mountain peak becomes faintly visible ahead. At this point, the path narrows and steepens; looking to the right, you can witness the spectacular and steep cliff face. Along the way, there is a platform for resting. As you ascend to the mountain peak, a triangulation point marked by the character for mountain, known as the Northern Peak of Henglong Mountain, indicates the end of the Henglong Ancient Trail. The peak offers a great view, with the distant Hushan and Shei-Pa National Park coming into sight. If you head north down the gentle slope from the peak, you will see a stone base, referred to by the Longshan villagers as the white station, known as the site of the old guardhouse, quietly narrating the history of the past.
