Henglong Ancient Trail Introduction
1. Location: Qing'an Village, Taian Township 2. Trail Start and End: Longshan Tribe, Taian Township ~ Triangulation Point of Henglong Mountain North Peak 3. Trail Length: Approximately 2 kilometers, Walking Time: About 90 minutes one way The Henglong Ancient Trail was originally a hunting path used by the Atayal tribe of Longshan Village (Siwasik) and is also known as the Siwasik Ancient Trail. This trail served as a passage for interactions between Longshan Village and the Luoshan Village in Nanjuang. Along the trail, visitors can see vine tunnels and bamboo groves, surrounded by lush greenery, creating a serene and elegant atmosphere. Occasionally, bamboo fencing and pheasants may surprise visitors by jumping out from the bushes. From County Road 62, one can reach the Longshan Tribe and travel along the Henglong Mountain Industrial Road until reaching the end, where the entrance to the Henglong Ancient Trail is located. A giant stone pillar at the trailhead bears the inscription "Henglong Ancient Trail." Following the stone steps, the path ascends in a zigzag pattern. After climbing to a platform of more than one hundred pings, visitors can see stone steps surrounding the area. This place was a guard post built by the Japanese against the Atayal people, leaving behind foundations and low walls as historical evidence. Continuing north, the serene scenery allows one to appreciate the lush growth of trees such as wood and camphor. Moving further, there is another platform similar to the previous one, known as the old site of the guard post. Soon, sandstone steps can be seen winding up the path, leading to an observation platform where one can gaze westward at the beautiful views of Dahu, Zhuolan, and Tongluo, with the sea of clouds entwining with the lush mountains creating a picturesque scene. Continuing along the trail, the mountaintop gradually comes into view. At this point, the path narrows and steepens. Looking to the right, the spectacular and steep rock wall is visible. Further along, there is a platform for resting. Upon reaching the mountaintop, there is a triangulation point, known as Henglong Mountain North Peak, marking the end of the Henglong Ancient Trail. The summit offers a great view, with distant sights of Tiger Mountain and Xueba National Park coming into view. If one descends gently from the summit towards the north, a stone-built base can be seen, referred to by the Longshan Tribe as the White Garrison, known as the old site of the guard post, quietly narrating the history of the past.
