Mingjian New Street Cold Spring Wetland Introduction
This is a riverine natural wetland that features abundant cold springs, bubbling springs, and ponds where the water gathers. The water quality is pure and clear, famous for its cultivation of water spinach. The local township office and farmers' association hold an annual "Water Spinach Festival" event, extending from the embankment of Fanzi Liao Creek in the east to the ditch next to Xinjie Village in the west; from the northern border of Mingjian Township in the north to Tianliao Alley (Township Road Tuo 24) in the south. The Xinjie cold spring was utilized by the Pingpu people to grow high-quality water spinach as early as 300 years ago when they settled and cultivated the area. During the Japanese colonial period, the colonial government valued the development of the area, completing the swimming pool construction on September 15, 1929, and later building a public bathhouse on January 5, 1941, turning it into a popular hot spring destination. The area frequently features bubbling spring landscapes and ponds where spring water collects, providing habitat for many aquatic animals such as fish and shrimp. The pure and clear water quality is also used by residents for growing water spinach, cold spring pools, and laundry purposes.
