Mingjian New Street Cold Spring Wetland Introduction
This natural wetland belongs to a river system and features abundant cold springs, hot springs, and the ponds they converge in. The water quality is pure and crisp, and it is renowned for the cultivation of water spinach. The local township office and agricultural association hold the "Water Spinach Festival" annually. It stretches from the embankment of the Fanzi Liao Creek in the east to the drainage ditch beside Xinjie Village in the west; from the northern boundary of Mingjian Township in the north to Tianliao Alley (Township Road Tuo 24) in the south. The Xinjie Cold Spring has been utilized for cultivating high-quality water spinach since the plain indigenous peoples settled and farmed there 300 years ago. During the Japanese colonial period, the government placed emphasis on its development, and on September 15, 1929, a swimming area was completed, followed by the construction of a public bathhouse on January 5, 1941, turning it into a popular hot spring destination. In the area, one can frequently see bubbling spring landscapes and ponds where spring water gathers, serving as habitats for various aquatic life like fish and shrimp. Furthermore, the pure and crisp water further facilitates the cultivation of water spinach, cold spring pools, and laundry facilities for residents.
