Mingjian New Street Cold Spring Wetland Introduction
This area is a natural wetland with abundant cold springs, bubbling springs, and the ponds they create. The water quality is pure and crisp, famously used for cultivating water spinach. The local township office and agricultural association held the "Water Spinach Festival" each year, spanning from the embankment of Fanzi Liao Creek in the east to the drainage ditch next to Xinjie Village in the west; from the boundary of Mingjian Township in the north to Tianliao Lane (County Road Tuo 24) in the south. The Xinjie Cold Springs have been utilized for growing quality water spinach since the Pingpu people settled and cultivated the area three hundred years ago. During the Japanese colonial period, the government emphasized its development, completing the construction of a swimming area on September 15, 1929, and then a public bathhouse on January 5, 1941, turning the site into a thriving hot spring destination. The area often showcases bubbling spring landscapes and ponds where spring water gathers, serving as habitats for numerous fish and shrimp. The pure and crisp water is also utilized by residents for growing water spinach and for use in cold spring pools and laundry facilities.
