Neiwen Village Introduction
Neiwen Village is located on the left bank of the Fenggang River upstream, about 1 kilometer west of the watershed between the Fenggang River and the Liren River. It is divided into Neiwen Lane 1, Neiwen Lane 2, and Nei Hai. The Neiwen Village was historically formed by four settlements that originally lived on both banks of the Neiwen River, a tributary of the Fangshan River, making it a historically significant and influential village. However, after the retrocession, the original site was not suitable for agriculture. In 1948, the villagers agreed to relocate, and from April 1948 to October 1950, they moved in batches. Most villagers moved to the current location, while some relocated to present-day Fenglin, Neishi, Shizi, Mudan, Nanshi, and other villages. The two major chief families also moved to Dongyuan Village in Mudan Township and the center of Lun Village in Shizi. Neiwen Village is located deep in the mountains and relies on the Southern Cross-Island Highway for external communication, making transportation inconvenient. Most young adults leave to seek work elsewhere, leaving mostly the elderly and children in the village. Due to the climate, there are wetlands, swamps, and tropical rainforests nearby, which is a significant feature of the area.
