Xuhai Grassland Introduction
Xuhai Grassland, also known as Zhongzheng Grand Grassland, is located in Xuhai Village, Mudan Township, Pingtung County. It lies on the gentle slopes of Mudanbi Mountain, north of the estuary of Xuhai River, adjacent to Mudan Bay on the Pacific coast, covering a total area of approximately 80 hectares. To this day, it remains a naturally preserved scenic area. The scenic area features three walking trails: the Grassland Trail, Mudanbi Mountain Trail, and Eco-Trail, each presenting different layers of scenery. The Grassland Trail is about 900 meters long and is of low difficulty, suitable for leisure walking. As the trail winds upwards, walkers are greeted with sprawling green grasslands, occasionally caressed by a gentle breeze, accompanied by the soothing rustle of grass. The sound is so regular, so calm, and so soothing to the heart. With verdant grass, you can naturally pause here to enjoy sea views and sunrises. The Mudanbi Mountain Trail, about 400 meters long, is lined with low shrubs such as Hengchun bayberries, jincai, myrtle, and white jujube. At a normal walking pace, it takes about 10 minutes to complete, with only a slightly steep section to conquer. After reaching the highest point of 232 meters above sea level at Mudanbi Mountain, the remainder of the journey is much easier. The Eco-Trail, approximately 1,500 meters long, is flanked by a variety of beautiful wild plants including sea camellias, wild mudan, Hengchun osmanthus, port wood, Taiwan orchid, and thin-leaved breadfruit. You may occasionally spot butterflies, insects, and reptiles. Although the distance is longer, the walk is anything but boring. At the intersection connecting the Grassland Trail and the Mudanbi Mountain Trail, there is a viewing pavilion. As expected, this is an excellent vantage point with a panoramic view of the vast Pacific Ocean ahead, while Mudan Bay, resembling a crescent moon, curves beautifully nearby. The beach is strewn with round pebbles, and nearby is the rustic Xuhai Fishing Port and the mysterious Aihai Stone House. "Fishing village, ruins, coastal waves, and strange stones," all hint at another beautiful journey waiting to be explored.
