Beiguan Temple Introduction
Beiguan Temple is dedicated to the deity Emperor Xuantiang, also known as the "Patriarch of Orchids". During the sacred celebrations, it has been celebrating with a series of orchid festival activities for 16 years, which is even longer than the Taiwan International Orchid Exhibition in Tainan. Various exquisite orchids are judged based on divination methods, adding uniqueness to the temple. Beiguan Temple and the nearby Cixuan Temple share a common origin but separated over 60 years ago due to a serious conflict between the Shangfan and Xiafan communities regarding the distribution of ritual offerings. This led to a more than sixty-year estrangement. On the eve of the 101st celebration of the goddess Mazu, the goddess inspired the chairman of the Ailan Association in Pingtung County, Gong Taiwen, through a dream, instructing him to hold a grand orchid exhibition on her birthday to welcome the community of Qiaoxing Village's Cixuan Temple for a "Fragrance and Orchid Appreciation" event to resolve the longstanding animosity. That year also marked the unprecedented occurrence of holding two orchid exhibitions.
