Fo Guang Shan Introduction
Fo Guang Shan Monastery is located at the northern end of Dashu District. It was established by Master Hsing Yun in 1967, through the hard work of him and his disciples, covering an area of more than 50 hectares. Together with the newly built Fo Guang Shan Buddha Memorial Center in 2011, it stretches along the right bank of the Kaoping River. The various halls are arranged according to the terrain, creating a grand and majestic atmosphere, making it an important Buddhist site in Taiwan. Fo Guang Shan features four main halls and over ten thousand statues, as well as institutions for education, healthcare, and the arts, all aimed at promoting Humanistic Buddhism and constructing a Pure Land on earth. It integrates the development of Dharma propagation, education, charity, culture, and pilgrimage, serving as a modern place of practice. Fo Guang Shan provides diverse environments for worship and Buddhist education, and is also a popular destination for pilgrims and nature lovers, especially at sunset when the great Buddha and palatial temples are bathed in the glow of twilight, enhancing their solemn and magnificent appearance, helping visitors forget their worldly worries. During the Lunar New Year to Lantern Festival period, the mountains are adorned with colorful lanterns, and at night, they shine brilliantly, creating an indescribably beautiful scene. ▶ Learn more about accommodations in Dashu District.
