Fo Guang Shan Introduction
Fo Guang Shan Monastery is located at the northern end of Dashi District. It was founded by Master Hsing Yun in 1967, constructed brick by brick with the help of his disciples. Covering an area of over 50 hectares, it stretches along the right bank of the Gaoping River, adjacent to the Buddha Memorial Center, which was newly built in 2011. Various halls and Buddhist temples are positioned according to the terrain, creating a solemn and magnificent atmosphere, making it an important Buddhist site in Taiwan. Fo Guang Shan features four main hall-style buildings and over ten thousand statues. It also houses educational, medical, and art institutions, promoting Humanistic Buddhism and the construction of a pure land in the human world. The monastery integrates various aspects of Dharma propagation, education, charity, culture, and pilgrimage in a modern setting. Fo Guang Shan provides a diverse environment for devotees to worship and engage in Buddhist studies, while also being a popular destination for visitors to pilgrimage and enjoy nature. Particularly during sunset, the Great Buddha and palace-style temples are bathed in the glow of dusk, enhancing their solemn and imposing presence, allowing one to forget worldly worries. During the Lunar New Year to Lantern Festival period, the mountain is adorned with countless lanterns, and at night it becomes splendid and breathtaking. ▶ Learn more about accommodation in Dashi District.
