Fo Guang Shan Introduction
Fo Guang Shan Temple is located at the northern end of Dasha District. It was founded by Master Hsing Yun in 1967, built brick by brick with the help of his disciples. Covering an area of over 50 hectares, it stretches along the right bank of the Hetao River, alongside the Buddha Memorial Center, which was built in 2011. The various Buddha halls are arranged according to the terrain, presenting a majestic and grand atmosphere, making it one of Taiwan's important Buddhist holy sites. Fo Guang Shan features four main hall-like structures and tens of thousands of statues, along with institutions for education, healthcare, and art. It aims to promote Humanistic Buddhism and build a Pure Land on Earth, integrating the development of Dharma propagation, education, charity, culture, and pilgrimage. Fo Guang Shan provides a diverse environment for devotees to worship and for Buddhist study and meditation, and it is also a popular destination for tourists and pilgrims, especially at sunset when the Great Buddha and the palace-like temple are bathed in the glow of dusk, creating a magnificent and solemn scene that helps one forget worldly worries. During the Lunar New Year to Lantern Festival period, the mountains are adorned with lanterns, and at night, the radiant lights create an impressive and beautiful spectacle.▶ Learn more about Dasha District accommodation.
