Fo Guang Shan Introduction
Fo Guang Shan Temple is located at the northern end of Dashu District. It was built by Master Hsing Yun in 1967 with the help of his disciples, covering an area of more than 50 hectares. Together with the Buddha Memorial Center, which was newly constructed in 2011, it stretches along the right bank of the Gaoping River. The various Buddhist halls are arranged according to the natural terrain, creating a majestic and grand atmosphere, making it one of Taiwan's important Buddhist sacred sites. Fo Guang Shan features four main hall-style buildings and over ten thousand statues of deities. It also includes institutions for education, healthcare, and art. With the goal of promoting Humanistic Buddhism and constructing a Pure Land on Earth, it integrates the development of Dharma propagation, education, charity, culture, and pilgrimage. Fo Guang Shan provides a multifaceted environment for devotees to worship and engage in Buddhist studies, while also being a popular destination for visitors seeking pilgrimage and nature. Especially during sunset, the Great Buddha and the palace-like temple bathe in the glow of twilight, creating an awe-inspiring and majestic view that makes one forget worldly troubles. During the Lunar New Year to Lantern Festival period, the mountains are adorned with lanterns, and at night, the scene is breathtakingly beautiful. ▶ Learn more about Dashu District accommodations.
