Fo Guang Shan Introduction
Fo Guang Shan Temple is located at the northern end of Dashi District. It was built by Master Hsing Yun and his disciples with great effort starting in 1967, covering over 50 hectares. Along with the Buddha Memorial Center, newly built in 2011, it stretches along the right bank of the Kaoping River. The various Buddha halls are arranged according to the terrain, presenting a solemn and grand appearance, making it an important Buddhist site in Taiwan. Fo Guang Shan has four main hall-style buildings and over ten thousand statues. It also hosts institutions for education, healthcare, and art galleries, aiming to promote Humanistic Buddhism and build a Pure Land on Earth, integrating the development of Dharma propagation, education, charity, culture, and pilgrimage. Fo Guang Shan offers a diverse environment for devotees to worship and engage in Buddhist study and meditation, and it is also a popular pilgrimage and sightseeing destination, particularly stunning at sunset when the Great Buddha and palace-style temples are bathed in the glow of dusk, creating a majestic scene that helps one forget worldly worries. During the Lunar New Year to Lantern Festival period, the mountain is adorned with lanterns, and at night, it becomes a brilliant and breathtaking sight.
