Zhiben National Forest Recreation Area Introduction
Zhiben National Forest Recreation Area is located in the middle reaches of the Zhiben River, covering an area of approximately 110.8 hectares. It features a subtropical monsoon forest with an elevation ranging from 110 to 650 meters. The diverse forestry, bird, and insect species create a rich ecological classroom. The area offers various recreational facilities, including multiple hiking trails, a monsoon forest area, and a foot massage path with flowing water, making it suitable for visitors of all ages. Forest Trail Scenic Path: Approximately 426 meters long (about 45 minutes walking), this trail passes through major facilities in the Wuming Taitung District, the monsoon forest area, the Indigenous Forest Area, and the water foot massage area, making it an easy walk for children and the elderly. Heroic Slope Trail: Known for its steepness, this trail is about 827 meters long but has a vertical drop of 180 meters, making it one of the best choices to test stamina and endurance. At the near end, the "Thousand Roots Banyan" provides a panoramic view of the Zhiben Hot Springs and the vast Pacific Ocean, rewarding hikers with a great sight after the climb. All adventurers are welcome to challenge themselves, but those who feel unwell or have a history of cardiovascular disease, hypertension, or heart conditions should not attempt this trail. Forest Bathing Trail: About 1820 meters long, with a walking time of approximately 90 minutes. This gentle trail allows visitors to immerse themselves in forests of camphor trees and big-leaf mahogany, taking deep breaths in nature. Qilixiang Trail: Approximately 1082 meters long, with a walking time of about 60 minutes. This trail connects the Huajian Zhiben Botanical Garden and the forest bathing trail branch, preserving natural landscapes while integrating an environmental design style. It employs site-appropriate materials and craftsmanship, creating a path that harmonizes with the terrain while implementing energy-saving and carbon-reducing concepts, such as the use of local materials (rocks and fallen trees) for stone steps and slope protection. Banyan Shade Trail: Stretching approximately 2030 meters, this easy trail takes about 1.5 hours to walk. The highest point is about 421 meters above sea level, offering views of the Zhiben Hot Springs from various angles. Along the trail, there are several century-old banyan trees with hanging roots. Must-see features and facilities include the Huajian Zhiben Botanical Garden, which cultivates over 50 species of herbs and aquatic plants, allowing visitors to learn about different varieties of flora through informative signage. Additionally, spring water is introduced, forming creeks that become habitats for small fish and shrimp. Monsoon Forest Area: This zone is designed with wind chimes, wind tubes, and maple leaves, allowing you to hear the sounds of the wind among the trees. Foot Massage Path: Cool mountain spring water gathers on smooth pebbles, creating a forest foot bath enjoyed by visitors of all ages. Soaking your feet here is not only refreshing but also beneficial for health.
