Chihpen National Forest Recreation Area is located in the midstream of Chihpen Creek, covering an area of approximately 110.8 hectares. It features subtropical monsoon forests at elevations between 110 and 650 meters. The diverse flora and fauna, including various species of trees, birds, and insects, make this a rich ecological classroom. The area offers various recreational facilities, including multiple trails, a monsoon forest area, and a stream foot massage pathway, making it suitable for visitors of all ages. Forest Trail Scenic Path: The total length is about 426 meters (approximately 45 minutes of walking), passing through key facilities in the park, such as Wuming Taitung District, Monsoon Forest Area, Indigenous Forest Area, and Stream Foot Massage Area, making it a gentle trail suitable for children and the elderly. Hero Slope Trail: Known for its steepness, the trail stretches about 827 meters, with a vertical drop of 180 meters, making it one of the best choices to test one's physical strength and endurance. The view from the Thousand Roots Banyan Tree near the end allows for a bird's-eye view of the Chihpen Hot Springs and the vastness of the Pacific Ocean, making it a great reward for completing the hike. All adventurers are welcome to challenge themselves but should assess their physical condition; those with cardiovascular diseases, high blood pressure, or heart conditions should avoid attempting this trail. This flat trail can be easily completed, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the aroma of camphor trees and large-leaved mahogany forests while enjoying deep breaths of fresh air. Qilixiang Trail: This trail is about 1082 meters long, taking around 60 minutes to walk. It connects the Chihpen Herb Garden and the Forest Bathing Trail's branch, preserving the natural landscape while integrating environmental design styles using site-appropriate materials and craftsmanship. It conforms to the terrain and implements energy-saving and carbon-reduction concepts, utilizing local materials (rocks and fallen trees) to create stone steps and embankments, along with drainage facilities like horizontal timber flow guides and "breathing" wooden grid water wells. Banyan Shade Trail: The trail is approximately 2030 meters long, with a leisurely walking time of about 1.5 hours. It reaches a maximum elevation of about 421 meters, offering panoramic views of the Chihpen Hot Springs area from various angles. Along the way, you can see several century-old banyan trees adorned with "beards." Must-visit attractions and facilities: Chihpen Herb Garden: Over 50 species of herbs and aquatic plants are planted here. Through interpretative signs, visitors can learn about different types of vegetation. Additionally, spring water has been introduced to create a small stream, becoming a habitat for fish and shrimp. Monsoon Forest Area: This area is designed with wind chimes, listening tubes, and maple leaves to allow you to personally experience the sounds of the wind in the forest. Stream Foot Massage Pathway: Cool mountain spring water gathers on smooth pebbles, creating a forest footbath loved by visitors of all ages.
