Dingyan Bay Sige Mountain Trail Introduction
Sigeshan is located in Dingyan Bay, Binlang Village, Beinan Township, Taitung County, and is only a 20-minute drive from Taitung Railway Station. Geologically, it is part of the coastal mountain range, formed by the pushing of the Philippine Sea Plate against the Eurasian Plate, resulting in a small mountain. The name Sigeshan comes from the Paiwan language, meaning "land of areca nut tree cultivation." Due to its advantageous terrain, it was designated as a military base with artillery during the Japanese occupation. Although the elevation is only 410 meters, it is situated at a high point above the Taitung Plain, offering an unobstructed view and making it an excellent spot for overlooking the Taitung urban area and nearby mountain landscapes. It is also a hidden gem for those seeking tranquility and leisure hiking close to Taitung city. The Sigeshan area features hiking trails, with over 200 steps from the trailhead to the summit. However, to reach the trailhead, one must first drive along the narrow Dong 46 industrial road in the mountainous area. Following the staircase trail, visitors can reach the summit's observation pavilion in less than half an hour. The pavilion is equipped with several self-guided interpretation panels, helping visitors understand the surrounding landscapes of the Taitung Valley Plain. Particularly on clear days, the summit offers unobstructed 360-degree views of the Taitung Plain, Beinan River, Liji Badlands, Central Mountain Range, Zhiben Main Mountain, Dulan Mountain, and the Pacific Ocean. The fresh mountain air and natural ecology leave a profound and beautiful impression on visitors.
