Dawu Fishing Port Introduction
Dawu Fishing Port has a unique natural environment advantage, strategically located at the converging point of cold and warm currents, featuring a rare phenomenon of upwelling that is rich in nutrients. The seawater is abundant in nutrients, attracting a large number of deep-sea fish to migrate and inhabit the area. Fishermen can catch billfish and other species without having to venture too far from the port, especially during the season for oilfish when boats are particularly busy. Surrounding Dawu Fishing Port are several seafood restaurants, such as Fa Shun Restaurant, Ge's Store, and Longfeng Restaurant, offering various seafood dishes, as well as local snacks like fresh fish soup, known for its generous portions. Occasionally, special seafood like lobsters and sea bream are available. Local delicacies include rice dumplings (in Taiwanese), which can be enjoyed as sashimi, grilled, boiled, or fried, and are rich in calcium. Despite the rich catch, the coastline features kilometers of sandy shores that hinder port construction, leading to long-term sediment accumulation in the fishing port, often forcing fishermen to take risks for fishing. To create a better fishing port for the benefit of fishermen and promote diversified development, the Fisheries Agency of the Council of Agriculture continues to implement improvement plans for the port, allocating budgets for constructing breakwaters, sand barriers, dredging docking areas, and building piers. The port is expected to develop into a water sports base for snorkeling and jet skiing, while also serving as a starting point for a blue highway connecting the offshore islands of Green Island and Orchid Island. This initiative aims to enhance local tourism value and boost economic development. In addition to enjoying delicious seafood, visitors can appreciate the scenic coastline and the Dawu Mountain range, making it an excellent spot for fishing enthusiasts.
