Dawu Fishing Port Introduction
Dawu Fishing Port has a unique natural environment, situated at the confluence of cold and warm currents, resulting in rare upwelling that is rich in nutrients. The abundant nutrients in the seawater attract numerous deep-sea fish to migrate and inhabit the area. Just a short distance from the port, the water depth is sufficient, making it easy to catch marlin without having to venture far. During the season for oilfish, boats are particularly busy coming in and out of the port. Surrounding Dawu Fishing Port, there are several seafood restaurants, such as Fa Hsu Restaurant, Ge's Store, and Dragon and Phoenix Restaurant, offering various seafood dishes, along with local snacks like fresh fish soup, commonly referred to as “big bowl.” If you're lucky, you might find special seafood like lobster and salmon. A local delicacy is "niang mi zai" (in Taiwanese), which can be enjoyed as sashimi or cooked in various ways, and is rich in calcium. Although there is an abundance of fish catch, the coastline consists of several kilometers of sandy shore that hinders the construction of a port. The ongoing problem of sand accumulation in the fishing port has led fishermen to risk beaching their boats to catch fish. To provide a better fishing port for the benefit of fishermen and facilitate diverse development, the Fisheries Agency of the Council of Agriculture has been continuously improving the port with budget allocations for constructing breakwaters, anti-sand walls, dredging, and building docks. The plan includes developing activities such as snorkeling and jet skiing, and establishing a blue highway connecting to the two outlying islands, Green Island and Orchid Island. This development aims to enhance local tourism value and stimulate economic growth. While enjoying the fresh seafood, visitors can also appreciate the coastal scenery and the majestic Dawu Mountain range, making it a great spot for fishing enthusiasts.
