Nan Zhu Lake Tribal Community Introduction
The Amis people of the South Zhu Lake Village originally lived in the upstream of Fengbin, at Mt. Miao. In search of flat and fertile land suitable for agriculture, they migrated to Zhu Lake Village and later moved to the present-day location of South Zhu Lake due to diseases and other factors. South Zhu Lake Village is the starting point of the Antong Ancient Trail, the first ancient pathway that crosses the Coastal Mountain Range of Hualien and Taitung, leading west to Yuli Township in Hualien County. The village features many buildings that showcase indigenous culture, providing tourists with spots for sightseeing and resting. During tribal festivals, these buildings can transform into gathering places. For example, the "thatched house," a pavilion for resting, has a barbecue area where tribespeople can grill meat brought back from hunting and share it with their kin. There’s also a wooden frame used to stack firewood, named after its resemblance to a straw hat, accompanied by two stove areas for cooking with firewood. The fire-cooking equipment known as "Kaka Hong" is the top choice for grilling flying fish and hosting gatherings.
