Nanzhuh Lake Village Introduction
The Amis people of the South Zhu Lake Tribe originally lived on Mount Maogong upstream in Fengbin. They migrated to Zhuhu Village in search of flat and fertile land suitable for farming, and due to diseases and other various factors, eventually settled in the current location of South Zhu Lake. The South Zhu Lake Tribe is the starting point of the Antong Mountain Path, the first ancient trail crossing the Huadong Coastal Mountain Range, from which one can walk west to reach Yuli Township in Hualien County. The South Zhu Lake Tribe features many buildings rich in indigenous flavor, which are not only available for tourists to admire and rest but also transform into gathering places during tribal festivities. The thatched-roof pavilion, known as "Cattail House," includes a barbecue area where tribespeople can grill meat brought back from hunting and share it with the community. There is also a wood rack, called " straw hat" due to its shape, used for stacking firewood, alongside two cooking stoves for burning wood. The grilling equipment known as "Kakakong" is an excellent choice for roasting flying fish and for gatherings.
