Nan Zhulu Lake Tribe Introduction
The Amis people of the South Zhu Lake Tribe originally lived on Mount Mao Gong upstream in Fengbin. They migrated to Zhu Lake Village in search of flat, fertile land suitable for farming and then eventually moved to their current location at South Zhu Lake due to diseases and various other factors. The South Zhu Lake Tribe is the starting point of the Antung Historic Trail, the first ancient path that crosses the Coastal Mountain Range of Hualien and Taitung. From here, by heading west, one can reach Yuli Township in Hualien County. There are many buildings in the South Zhu Lake Tribe that are full of indigenous flavor. In addition to providing a place for tourists to observe and take a rest, these structures can also transform into gathering places during tribal festivals. For example, the "thatched hut," which serves as a resting pavilion, includes a barbecue area where tribe members can roast meat after returning from hunting and share it with others. There is a wooden rack for stacking firewood, named "straw hat" due to its similar shape, and there are also two stoves nearby for cooking with firewood. The fire-roasting equipment known as "Kakakhong" is the perfect choice for grilling flying fish and gatherings.
