Visiting the Hualien-Taitung Valley in the cold winter not only allows you to admire the endless fields of rapeseed flowers along the way, but soaking in hot springs to relieve fatigue is truly a pleasure of life. The Antong Hot Spring, which has a history of over a century, was once listed as one of the eight scenic spots in Hualien known as "Antong Zhuanguan." The near-transparent spring water, with a temperature of 66 degrees Celsius, provides a unique warmth in winter whether soaking in a bathhouse, hot spring inn, or enjoying outdoor hot springs by the creek. In 1904, a Japanese camphor gatherer discovered the hot spring by the Antong Creek. By 1930, the Japanese built a police guesthouse and established a public bath, gradually developing it into a hot spring destination. Over time, the Yuli Hot Spring public bath was renamed Antong Hot Spring Grand Hotel. However, the hot spring operators have preserved the wooden bungalows built during the Japanese colonial period. The architecture and tatami-furnished Japanese-style rooms are well-maintained, and a sign reading "Yuli Hot Spring Public Bath" hangs at the entrance, exuding a tranquil and charming aura. In addition to soaking in the Antong Hot Springs, there is also an ancient trail, the Antong Yueling Ancient Road, opened during the Qing Dynasty, which is approximately 13 kilometers long. The scenic views along the trail are pristine and beautiful, rich in historical significance, providing another activity option for visitors to Antong Hot Springs.
