In the cold winter, traveling to the Huadong Valley not only allows you to admire the endless canola flower fields but also soaking in hot springs to relieve fatigue is a great pleasure. With a history of over a century, Antong Hot Springs was once known as "Antong Zhuangnuo," listed as one of the eight scenic spots of Hualien. The nearly transparent hot spring water reaches a temperature of 66 degrees Celsius, providing warmth unique to winter, whether soaking in a bathhouse, hot spring B&B, or enjoying an outdoor soak by the creek. In 1904, a Japanese camphor collector discovered the hot springs by the Antong Creek. By 1930, the Japanese built a police guesthouse here and set up a public bath, gradually developing it into a hot spring resort. Over time, the Yuli Hot Spring Public Bath was renamed Antong Hot Spring Grand Hotel; however, the hot spring operators still retain the wooden bungalows built during the Japanese occupation period. The architectural appearance and tatami-matted Japanese rooms are well-preserved, and a sign reading "Yuli Hot Spring Public Bath" hangs above the entrance, adding a tranquil and vintage charm to the entire building. In addition to soaking in Antong Hot Springs, there is also the Antong Old Trail, established during the Qing Dynasty, which is about 13 kilometers long. The scenery along the way is pristine and beautiful, rich in historical significance, offering another activity option for visitors coming to enjoy the hot springs.
