In the cold winter, traveling to the Hualien-Taitung Valley, in addition to enjoying the endless fields of rapeseed flowers along the way, soaking in hot springs to relieve fatigue is a great human pleasure. The AnTong Hot Spring, with a history of over a hundred years, was once known as "AnTong Zhuang Nuan," ranked as one of the eight sights of Hualien. The nearly transparent hot spring water has a temperature of 66 degrees Celsius. Whether soaking in bathhouses or hot spring inns or digging pools for open-air soaking by the creek, one can enjoy the unique warmth of winter. In 1904, a Japanese camphor gatherer discovered the hot spring by the AnTong Creek. By 1930, the Japanese built a police guesthouse here and established public bathhouses, gradually developing into a hot spring resort. Over time, the Yuli Hot Spring public bath was renamed AnTong Hot Spring Grand Hotel, but the hot spring operators have still preserved the wooden bungalows built during the Japanese colonial period. The building's exterior and tatami-floored Japanese-style rooms are well-maintained, and a sign saying "Yuli Hot Spring Public Bath" hanging over the entrance adds to the tranquil, charming, and ancient atmosphere of the entire building. Apart from enjoying the hot springs at AnTong, there is also an ancient trail, the AnTong Crossing Path, opened during the Qing Dynasty, which is about 13 kilometers long. The scenery along the way is pristine and beautiful, rich in historical significance, making it another activity choice for those who come to soak in the hot springs at AnTong.
