In the cold winter, traveling in the Huadong Valley, aside from enjoying the endless blooming canola flower fields along the way, soaking in hot springs to relieve fatigue is a great enjoyment. The century-old Antung Hot Springs, which once ranked as one of Hualien's Eight Scenic Spots under the name "Antung Zhuanguan," features nearly transparent hot spring water with a temperature of 66 degrees Celsius. Whether soaking in a hot spring facility, a hot spring inn, or in an outdoor bath beside the creek, one can enjoy the unique warmth of winter. In 1904, a Japanese camphor gatherer discovered the hot springs by Antung Creek. By 1930, the Japanese built a police guesthouse here and established public bathhouses, gradually developing into a hot spring resort. Over time, the Yuli Hot Spring public bath was renamed Antung Hot Spring Grand Hotel, yet the hot spring operators still retain the wooden bungalows constructed during the Japanese colonial period. The exterior of the buildings and the tatami-floored Japanese-style rooms are well preserved, with a sign reading "Yuli Hot Spring Public Bath" hanging above the entrance, giving the entire structure a tranquil, pleasant, and antique atmosphere. Besides soaking in Antung Hot Springs, there is also the Antung Old Trail, which was opened during the Qing Dynasty, with a total length of about 13 kilometers. The scenic views along the way are pristine and beautiful, rich in historical significance, making it another activity option for visitors to Antung Hot Springs.
