He Nan Temple Introduction
HeNan Temple is located in Yanliao Village, Shoufeng Township, Hualien County. Inheriting the Dharma lineage of Master Guangyin, it is not only a renowned Buddhist site in eastern Taiwan but also a hall of Buddhist art. Established in 1967 by Abbot Chuanqing, who traveled through mountains to build this place for practice, the temple is situated by the sea, overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Its architectural style is simple and unadorned, and behind the temple stands a statue of the yellow Guanyin, a masterpiece completed in collaboration with the internationally renowned sculptor Professor Yang Yingfeng, regarded as a national treasure of art. Its majestic and dignified form has become a spiritual symbol of HeNan Temple. HeNan Temple promotes Buddhist teachings through "Buddhist Art Multimedia," integrating Buddhist studies, literature, music, fine arts, voice-over, photography, and computer technology. Through beautiful audiovisual presentations, it conveys complex Buddhist principles, naturally embedding the wisdom of Buddhism into people's hearts, earning high acclaim and making HeNan Temple a pioneer in contemporary religious art. In addition to regular joint practice sessions, the temple hosts various events, including a Buddhist arts festival, Lantern Festival, concerts, as well as essay, poetry, and short story competitions, and summer camps for both adults and children, and a charity fair at the end of October. These activities are open to the public and free to participate.
