Yenliao Introduction
Yenliao Village is located in Shoufeng Township, Hualien County, and boasts Taiwan's longest pebble beach. The name "Yenliao" comes from the early practice of boiling salt for consumption near Hualien Port. During the Japanese colonial period, it was known as "Yenliao Harbor." In recent years, every summer, it attracts artisans and backpackers from various places, forming an exotic "Sea or Crazy Market." The market features handmade crafts, tarot reading, and discussion forums. Along Yenliao, there are distinctive homestays, and enjoying a cup of coffee by the ocean-view window makes for a delightful and tranquil afternoon. Alternatively, you can wander along the coastal bike path, and when tired, stop by nearby shops to savor a fresh and abundant seafood feast! The Yenliao community is divided into three smaller villages: Dakeng, Tomay, and Ganzi Tree Foot. Among them, Tomay is formed by the Amis people of the Lilo community, meaning "Bear Mountain," as it is said that the Amis of Lilo used to hunt large bears here. The other two small villages belong to the Xiuguluan Amis tribe.
