Yanliao Introduction
Yanliao Village is located in Shoufeng Township, Hualien County, and boasts the longest gravel beach in Taiwan. The name "Yanliao" comes from the early salt production near Hualien Port, known as "Yanliao Harbor" during the Japanese occupation period. In recent years, during the summer vacation, this place gathers handcrafters and backpackers from various regions, forming an exotic "Sea or Crazy Market," featuring handmade goods, tarot readings, and discussions on various topics. Along Yanliao, there are unique accommodations, and enjoying a cup of coffee by the ocean view is a wonderful and tranquil afternoon. Alternatively, you can stroll along the coastal bike path, and when tired, visit nearby shops to savor a fresh and sumptuous seafood feast! The Yanliao community is divided into three small villages: Dakeng, Tomay, and Gan Zi Shu Jiao. Among them, Tomay is formed by the Amis people from Lilo Village, meaning "Bear Mountain," as it is said that Amis hunters from Lilo once hunted bears here. The other two small villages belong to the Xiuguluan Amis tribe.
