Yenliao Introduction
Yanliao Village is located in Shoufeng Township, Hualien County, and boasts the longest pebble beach in Taiwan. The name Yanliao originates from the early production of edible salt near Hualien Harbor, and during the Japanese colonial period, it was referred to as "Yanliao Port." In recent years, every summer, this place gathers artisans and backpackers from all over, forming the exotic "Sea or Crazy Market." The market features handmade crafts, tarot readings, and discussions on various topics. Along Yanliao, there are unique homestays; enjoying a cup of coffee by the seaside window makes for a beautiful and peaceful afternoon. Alternatively, one can wander along the coastal bike path and, when tired, stop by nearby shops to savor a fresh and abundant seafood feast! The Yanliao community comprises three small villages: Dakeng, Tomay, and Ganzi Tree Foot. Among them, Tomay is made up of the Amis people from the Lilu community, and it means "Bear Mountain." Legend has it that the Amis people from Lilu used to hunt large bears here, while the other two small villages belong to the Xiuqulian Amis.
