Yenliao Introduction
Yanliao Village is located in Shoufeng Township, Hualien County, and it boasts Taiwan's longest pebble beach. The name "Yanliao" originates from the production of edible salt near Hualien Harbor in the past, and it was referred to as "Yanliao Harbor" during the Japanese occupation. In recent years, whenever summer arrives, the area gathers handcraft artists and backpackers from various places, forming an exotic "Sea or Crazy Market." The market features handmade goods, tarot readings, and discussions on various topics. Along the Yanliao area, there are unique guesthouses, and enjoying a cup of coffee by the sea-view window makes for a beautiful and tranquil afternoon. Alternatively, one can stroll along the coastal bike path and, when tired, stop by nearby shops to savor a fresh, hearty seafood feast! The Yanliao community consists of three smaller villages: Dakeng, Tomay, and Ganzi Shu Jiao. Among them, Tomay is inhabited by the Amis people from the Lilu community, and it means "Bear Mountain," as it is said that the Amis from Lilu used to hunt large bears here. The other two smaller villages belong to the Siouluan Amis people.
