Yanjiao Introduction
Yanliao Village is located in Shoufeng Township, Hualien County, and boasts the longest pebble beach in Taiwan. The name Yanliao originates from the production of edible salt near Hualien Port in earlier times, and during the Japanese colonial period, it was known as "Yanliao Port". In recent years, every summer, this place attracts artisans and backpackers from various regions, forming a vibrant and exotic "Sea or Crazy Market" that showcases handmade goods, tarot readings, and discussion forums. Along the Yanliao area, there are distinctive homestays, where enjoying a cup of coffee by the seaside window makes for a wonderful and tranquil afternoon. Alternatively, you can wander along the coastal bike path, and when you're tired, visit nearby shops to savor a fresh and sumptuous seafood feast! The Yanliao community is divided into three small villages: Dakeng, Tomay, and Ganzi Shu Jiao. Among them, Tomay is composed of the Amis people from the Riluo community, meaning "Bear Mountain," as it is said that the Amis from Riluo once hunted large bears here. The other two small villages belong to the Siouguluan Amis tribe.
