Yenliao Introduction
Yanliao Village is located in Shoufeng Township, Hualien County, and boasts the longest pebble beach in Taiwan. The name Yanliao originates from the early salt production for consumption near Hualien Port, and during the Japanese colonial period, it was known as "Yanliao Harbor." In recent years, every summer, the area attracts artisans and backpackers from all over, forming a vibrant "Sea or Crazy Market" filled with exotic flavors. Handcrafted items, tarot readings, and discussions on various topics can all be found at the market. Along Yanliao, there are unique guesthouses, where sipping a cup of coffee by the sea-facing window makes for a lovely and tranquil afternoon. Alternatively, one can wander along the seaside bike path, and when tired, visit nearby shops to enjoy a fresh and hearty seafood feast! The Yanliao community consists of three smaller villages: Dakeng, Tomay, and Ganzi Tree Foot. Among them, Tomay is made up of the Amis people from the Liluo community, whose name means "Bear Mountain," as it is said that the Amis people from Liluo used to hunt large bears here. The other two smaller villages belong to the Xiuguluan Amis people.
