Old Railway Cultural Zone Introduction
Hualien City's Old Railway is a segment of the former Hualien-Taitung railway that ran through the city to the seaside train station, with a total length of about 1.8 kilometers. After the opening of the North-Link line in 1979, the transportation focus shifted, and the old railway gradually faded into the cluttered urban area. In 2003, the successful opening of an eighteen-meter long railway road on Shixing Street revitalized the old business district, playing a crucial role in restoring its former glory. This old railway, stretching from Zhongzheng Road to Jiefeng Street, allows visitors to experience the vibrant market atmosphere of Hualien, where various creative vendors emerge along the roadside, making friends and selling goods in their unique ways. In this small mountain and ocean city, it's easy to enjoy the charm of Hualien's markets within walking distance; at night, when all the shop lights are on, even just strolling here is quite delightful. A visit to Hualien is incomplete without taking a walk and looking around here!
