Old Railway Cultural District Introduction
Hualien City Old Railway was a segment of the Hualien-Taitung Railway that passed through downtown Hualien to the seaside train terminal, spanning approximately 1.8 kilometers. After the completion of the North Link Railway in 1979, the transportation focus shifted, leading this old railway to lose its original function and gradually become obscured in the cluttered urban area. In 2003, a railway road measuring 18 meters in Xinjie Street was successfully opened in the city, and although it is the shortest road in all of Hualien City, it plays a crucial role in revitalizing the old business district's past glory. This old railway from Zhongzheng Road to Jieyue Street offers an experience of bustling market scenes in Hualien, with various creative vendors emerging from the roadside, using their unique styles to make friends and sell goods. In this small city surrounded by mountains and the sea, it is easy to savor the charm of Hualien's markets within walking distance; at night, when all the shops light up, strolling here becomes quite delightful. Visiting Hualien wouldn't be complete without taking a walk here!
