Old Railway Culture District Introduction
The Hualien City Old Railway is an old stretch of railroad that once connected the Hualien-Taitung railway through the city to the seaside train station, with a total length of about 1.8 kilometers. After the completion of the North Link Line in 1979, the transportation focus shifted, causing the old railway to lose its original function and gradually fade away in the cluttered city area. In 2003, the successful opening of a 18-meter-long railway road on Shingong Street revitalized the area. Although this is the shortest road in Hualien City, it plays a crucial role in restoring the former glory of the old business district. This old railway from Zhongzheng Road to Jieyue Street offers an experience of bustling local markets, with various creative vendors emerging along the roadside, using their unique styles to make friends and sell goods. In this small city surrounded by mountains and sea, one can easily savor the charm of Hualien's markets within walking distance. At night, when all the shops' lights turn on, even a casual stroll here is quite delightful. A visit to Hualien wouldn't be complete without walking and exploring this area!
