Wang-an Zhongsha Historic House Introduction
The Zhongsha Historical House, located in Zhongsha Village, Wang-an Township, Penghu, was once a garden-style historical residence with over a hundred Min Nan buildings, reflecting the prosperity of its time. Walking down the streets, one can see traditional Minnan architecture, daughter windows, cat holes, and the unique stone clam shells. The original name of Zhongsha Historical House was "Huazhai" (Flower House). At the center of Huazhai, there is a small hill that residents refer to as "Huaxin," meaning the heart of the flower house. The name "Huazhai" was first recorded in the "Taiwan Fu Zhi" in 1695, referring to its harbor. Due to its topography resembling a flower, when viewed from the open sea, the hills encircle like flower petals surrounding the heart, and thus it was named "Huazhai." The cluster of historical houses in Zhongsha Village has been listed among the world's 100 most endangered heritage sites and is now officially registered as a "Cultural Heritage Preservation Area" by the Cultural Affairs Council. Because of the dense concentration of historical houses, Zhongsha Village emanates a rich cultural atmosphere, often evoking nostalgic sentiments in visitors. In recent years, it has also become a favorite location for film and advertising shoots (such as for Pou Chen coffee), making it a truly worthwhile place to visit in Penghu. 【Suggested stay time】 1.5 hours.
