Chiang Kung Island Introduction
Jiangjun Island is primarily composed of siliceous basalt, featuring a flat surface, and is a typical basalt lava plateau located just one nautical mile from Wang'an Island, with a sailing time of about 5 minutes. In the past, the island prospered due to coral and calcareous stone collection, and the streets of the fishing port are lined with small buildings, earning it the nickname "Little Hong Kong." This island is also one of the few areas in Penghu where buildings began to be constructed early on, resulting in many two, three, and four-story buildings, as well as numerous narrow alleys with old houses showcasing traditional grocery stores. Nowadays, most islanders make a living from fishing, and the low, old fishing village ambience by the harbor along with the stunning coral and underwater ecology of the Penghu waters have been preserved due to love and care. There are four major temples on the island: Jiangjun Temple, Yong'an Palace, Mazu Temple, and Jiangjun Chapel. Among them, Mazu Temple was built with donations from the islanders and once set three records in Penghu: spending the most money, hosting the most banquet tables, and completing construction in the shortest time. Here, you can admire exquisite stone carving craftsmanship. Circumnavigating Jiangjun Island offers a distant view of the linked island "Ship Sail Island," which is a basalt formation approximately 25 meters high. There is a pavilion on top where visitors can relax and unwind; this linked island is also an important gathering place for sea fishing enthusiasts. 【Recommended Stay Duration】 2 hours or overnight.
