Shan Pond beside Cultural Center Introduction
On this day in history - 【Shan Pond】, a lumber distribution center in Taiwan. During the Japanese colonial period, due to the development of the Alishan timber industry, the population of Chiayi City doubled and prospered rapidly, making it Taiwan's lumber distribution center. The current location of the Chiayi City Cultural Center was once the site of the largest lumber pond in East Asia after the completion of the 【Shan Pond】 Alishan Railway, which was built for storing timber, primarily cypress, hence the alternative name "Cypress Pond." The pond is surrounded by trees, creating a shady retreat, and the refreshing breeze carries the scent of cypress. Anglers enjoy fishing under the trees, making it a perfect recreational spot. Nowadays, the Chiayi City Cultural Bureau is actively enriching various cultural activities, aiming to inherit the ancient literary style of Zhuolu and create a new culture in Chiayi, with the goal of encouraging public participation in cultural construction, allowing everyone to appreciate performances and enhance the quality of life in the Chiayi area.
