Chiayi Railway Art Village Introduction
The Chiayi Railway Art Village, originally an idle railway warehouse, was repurposed into an artistic creation and exhibition space following planning by the city government, which commenced in September 2000 with the "Railway Art Village" project. The area was transformed to provide various creative spaces for artistic exchanges and experiences, with the hope that arts and cultural performances would lead to the integration of local characteristics and community development, ultimately realizing the ideal goals of the Railway Art Village. The railway warehouse consists of twelve storage units, arranged in a long, rectangular multi-compartment architectural structure oriented north-south. Among these, seven are managed by the Railway Bureau’s freight service, and the total indoor area is approximately 2,565 square meters. The indoor and outdoor spaces have been designed for various purposes, including creation, exhibitions, performances, and educational promotion. The surrounding area has been developed to establish an artistic atmosphere, creating an alternative space for art performances. To reach the Railway Art Village: 1. From the Chiayi Train Station: Take the urban bus route 7 towards the rear train station (previously the transfer center) and get off at the Railway Art Village stop, then walk about 10 minutes to arrive. 2. From the Chiayi Train Station: Take the urban bus route 1 (or route 1A) towards Chiayi Veterans Hospital (or 228 National Memorial Park), get off at the Railway Art Village stop, and walk about 10 minutes to arrive. 3. If you take a long-distance bus and get off at the rear train station, take the urban bus route 7 towards Daye Station and get off at the Railway Art Village stop, then walk about 10 minutes to arrive. Walking from the Train Station: After getting off at Chiayi Train Station, it takes about 8 minutes to walk to the Railway Art Village. From the High-Speed Rail Station: 1. Take the high-speed rail to Chiayi High-Speed Rail Station and then take BRT routes 7211 or 7212 to the rear Chiayi Train Station. From there, take the urban bus route 7 towards Daye Station and get off at the Railway Art Village stop, then walk about 10 minutes to arrive. 2. Take the high-speed rail to Chiayi High-Speed Rail Station and then take BRT routes 7211 or 7212 to the rear Chiayi Train Station. From there, take the urban bus route 1 (or route 1A) towards the Chiayi University campus, get off at the Railway Art Village stop, and walk about 10 minutes to arrive. 3. Take the high-speed rail to Chiayi High-Speed Rail Station and then take BRT routes 7211 or 7212 to the rear Chiayi Train Station, and after walking for about 8 minutes, you will arrive.
