Bitan Scenic Area Introduction
Bitan, once known as one of the "Eight Scenic Spots of Taiwan," has several explanations for its name. One theory suggests it is named for the clear blue lake water, while another attributes it to the magnificent stone cliffs along the shore. Regardless of the explanation, both capture the enchanting beauty of Bitan's lakeside and mountainous scenery. At Bitan, visitors can explore the art installations and colorful staircases on the east bank, dine at scenic restaurants offering Southeast Asian cuisine, or shop for snacks and drinks in the riverside business district. Continuing on the Bitan Suspension Bridge to the west bank, visitors can hike up to the Biting Pavilion, situated above the "Bitan" inscription, for a panoramic view of the lake. Additionally, there is the nearby Hemei Mountain Trail for hiking. The blue line along this trail offers views of the beautiful forest and Bitan Lake, while the green line leads to the summit, providing a distant view of Nankang Mountain and Taipei 101. One shouldn't miss the fun of boating on the lake! Tourists can choose between pedal boats that require teamwork or comfortable electric boats to admire the picturesque riverside scenery and the small Red Cliff up close. The nighttime ambiance of Bitan is another charm, with dazzling lights from businesses and the suspension bridge reflecting off the riverside, creating a romantic night scene that encourages leisurely exploration and appreciation.
