Bitan Scenic Area Introduction
Bitan, once known as one of the "Eight Scenic Spots and Twelve Beauties of Taiwan," has various theories regarding its name. One theory suggests it is named for the clear blue waters of the lake, while another attributes it to the magnificent rocky cliffs along the water's edge. Regardless of the theory, both describe the enchanting landscape of Bitan. Visitors to Bitan can explore the installation art and stairway murals on the east bank, enjoy Southeast Asian cuisine at scenic restaurants while feeling the gentle riverside breeze, or shop for snacks and beverages at the riverside marketplace. Walking across the Bitan Suspension Bridge to the west bank, visitors can climb to the Bitan Pavilion, which features the name "Bitan," and take in the breathtaking views of the area. Additionally, there is the nearby Hemei Mountain Trail for hiking; following the blue line allows one to admire the beautiful scenery of the mountains and Bitan Lake, while the green line leads to the mountaintop for a panoramic view of Nangang Mountain and Taipei 101. A visit to Bitan wouldn't be complete without the joy of boat rides on the lake! Travelers can choose between pedal boats that require teamwork or comfortable electric boats to closely appreciate the riverside scenery and the beauty of the Little Red Cliff. At night, Bitan offers a different charm as the vibrant lights from businesses and the suspension bridge reflect on the riverbank, creating a romantic atmosphere that is worth wandering through and savoring.
