Bitan Scenic Area Introduction
Bitan, once one of the "Eight Sights and Twelve Beauties of Taiwan," has various explanations for its name. One explanation is that it is named for the clear blue waters of the lake, while another cites the magnificent stone cliffs along the shore. Regardless of the origin of the name, both interpretations highlight the breathtaking scenery of Bitan. When visiting Bitan, one can explore the installation art and painted stairways on the east bank, enjoy Southeast Asian cuisine at scenic restaurants while feeling the gentle riverside breeze, or shop for snacks and drinks in the riverside market. Walking across the Bitan Suspension Bridge to the west bank, visitors can ascend to the Bitan Pavilion, which features the name "Bitan," offering a panoramic view of the lake. Additionally, the nearby Hemei Mountain Trail provides hiking opportunities. On the blue line of the trail, you can appreciate the beautiful landscape of the forests and Bitan Lake, while the green line takes you to the mountain summit, where you can gaze out at Nangang Mountain and Taipei 101. No visit to Bitan would be complete without enjoying the fun of boating on the lake! Visitors can choose between pedal boats that require teamwork or comfortable electric boats to admire the riverside scenery and the beauty of the Little Chikubi up close. At night, Bitan transforms into a different experience, with the dazzling lights from businesses and the suspension bridge reflecting on the riverside, creating a romantic nightscape worth exploring and savoring.
