Bitan Suspension Bridge Introduction
Bitan Suspension Bridge is located in the midstream of the Xindian River. It was built in 1937 and is a double-tower, double-hinged, single-span suspension bridge, measuring 186.6 meters in length and 3.5 meters in width, with an elevation of 30 meters, capable of accommodating approximately 1,000 people. It is a well-known tourist attraction in the Xindian District. The river's clear blue waters contribute to its name, Bitan. In the past, the crossing between the two banks of Bitan relied primarily on ferryboats. After the completion of the Bitan Suspension Bridge, it became an important connection between Zhonghe and Xindian. Additionally, due to its beautiful design and unique characteristics, it has become the focal point of the Bitan Scenic Area, as well as an iconic symbol of the Xindian District. The Bitan Suspension Bridge, which opened in 1937, is a landmark in Xindian, and the 200 meters of this suspension bridge have witnessed many sweet memories. In fact, Bitan is home to more than one bridge; due to the wear of time on the suspension cables, a concrete structure known as Bitan Bridge was built downstream in 1956. In 1997, the completion of the Northern Second Highway introduced another large arch bridge, which gives Bitan three bridges from different eras, creating a distinctive landscape. This is the "first light sculpture suspension bridge in Taiwan that dances to music," featuring 17,472 LED lights that illuminate the bridge, with the colorful lights reflecting on the riverside, enhancing the enchanting moonlit scenery of Bitan. Bitan at night is increasingly beautiful! The nighttime Bitan Suspension Bridge adorned with colorful lights resembles a rainbow arching over the water, making it a popular dating spot for couples who wish to enjoy the beautiful lake and mountain views together.
