Bitan Suspension Bridge Introduction
Bitan Suspension Bridge is located in the mid-stream of the Xindian River. Built in 1937, it is a double-towered and double-hinged single-span suspension bridge, measuring 186.6 meters in length, 3.5 meters in width, and standing 30 meters above the ground, capable of accommodating about 1,000 people, making it a well-known tourist attraction in the Xindian District. The river's clear blue color is why it is called Bitan. In the past, ferries primarily facilitated transportation across both sides of Bitan. After the completion of the Bitan Suspension Bridge, it became an important link between Zhonghe and Xindian, and due to its beautiful design and unique characteristics, it has become the focal point of the Bitan Scenic Area decades later, serving as a landmark for the Xindian District. The Bitan Suspension Bridge, which opened in 1937, is an iconic attraction in Xindian. In just 200 meters, this suspension bridge carries many sweet memories for visitors. In reality, there is more than one bridge at Bitan. Due to the steel cables of the suspension bridge being eroded by time, a concrete structure, known as Bitan Bridge, was built downstream in 1956. In 1997, with the opening of the North Second Highway, another large arch bridge was added, resulting in Bitan having three bridges—an old, a middle-aged, and a new one—spanning different eras, creating a unique landscape. This is the "first light sculpture suspension bridge in Taiwan that dances to music." A total of 17,472 LED lights are used on the bridge, with the dazzling lights reflecting on the riverbank, enhancing Bitan's enchanting night scenery. Bitan at night becomes increasingly beautiful! The Bitan Suspension Bridge is adorned with colorful lights at night, resembling a rainbow spanning across the water, making it a popular dating spot for couples visiting Bitan to walk hand in hand and enjoy the beautiful lakes and mountains.
