Bitan Suspension Bridge Introduction
Bitan Suspension Bridge is located in the middle reaches of the Xindian River and was built in 1937. The bridge is a double-tower, double-hinge single-span suspension bridge, measuring 186.6 meters in length and 3.5 meters in width, with an elevation of 30 meters. It can accommodate approximately 1,000 people and is a well-known tourist attraction in the Xindian District. The river's clear blue water has earned it the name "Bitan". In the past, ferryboats were primarily used for crossing the river, but after the completion of the Bitan Suspension Bridge, it not only became an important link between Zhonghe and Xindian, but also, due to its elegant design and unique features, it has become the focal point of the Bitan Scenic Area and a landmark of Xindian District. Bitan's three bridges include the Bitan Suspension Bridge, which opened in 1937, serving as a notable site in Xindian. The short 200 meters of the suspension bridge carries many sweet memories of visitors. In fact, Bitan has more than one bridge. Due to the wear and tear on the suspension cables over the years, a cement structure bridge called Bitan Bridge was built downstream in 1956. In 1997, the completion of the North Second Highway added another large arch bridge, allowing Bitan to have three bridges from different eras, creating a unique landscape. This is the "first light sculpture suspension bridge in Taiwan that dances to the rhythm of music," which utilizes a total of 17,472 LED lights. The brilliant lights reflected on the riverside enhance the enchanting moonlit scenery of Bitan. Bitan at night is increasingly beautiful! The Bitan Suspension Bridge is adorned with colorful lights at night, resembling a rainbow spanning the water's surface, making it a popular dating spot for couples to enjoy the beautiful lake and mountain scenery hand in hand.
