Bitan Suspension Bridge Introduction
The Bitan Suspension Bridge is located in the middle reach of the Xindian River and was built in 1937. It is a double-tower, double-hinge, single-span suspension bridge, measuring 186.6 meters in length and 3.5 meters in width, with an elevation of 30 meters, capable of carrying about 1,000 people, making it a well-known tourist attraction in the Xindian District. Due to the clear blue color of the river, it is called Bitan. In earlier times, ferryboats were primarily used for crossing the banks of Bitan. After the completion of the Bitan Suspension Bridge, it not only became an important connection between Zhonghe and Xindian but also, due to its beautiful design and unique features, became the focal point of the Bitan Scenic Area decades later, symbolizing the Xindian District. The Bitan Suspension Bridge, which opened in 1937, is a symbolic spot in Xindian, and the short 200-meter bridge carries many people's sweet memories. In reality, there is more than one bridge at Bitan. Due to the erosion of the suspension cables over time, a cement-structured Bitan Bridge was built downstream in 1956. In 1997, the completion of the North-South Expressway added yet another arch bridge, resulting in Bitan having three bridges—the old, the middle-aged, and the new—spanning different eras, creating a unique landscape. This is "the first light sculpture suspension bridge in Taiwan that dances to music," utilizing a total of 17,472 LED lights. The dazzling lights reflect on the riverbank, further enhancing the exquisite moonlit scenery of Bitan. Bitan at night becomes increasingly beautiful! The Bitan Suspension Bridge is adorned with colorful lights at night, resembling a rainbow arching over the water, making it a top choice for couples to visit Bitan and enjoy the breathtaking lake and mountain views together.
