Bitan Suspension Bridge Introduction
The Bitan Suspension Bridge is located in the middle reaches of the Xindian River and was built in 1937. The bridge features a double-tower and double-hinged single-span design, measuring 186.6 meters in length, 3.5 meters in width, and stands 30 meters above sea level, with a capacity of approximately 1,000 people, making it a well-known tourist attraction in the Xindian District. Due to the clear blue color of the river, it is referred to as Bitan. In the past, transportation across the river was mainly by ferry, but after the completion of the Bitan Suspension Bridge, it not only became an important link between Zhonghe and Xindian but also, due to its exquisite design, has become the focal point of the Bitan Scenic Area and a landmark of the Xindian District over the decades. The Bitan Suspension Bridge, inaugurated in 1937, is a signature attraction of Xindian; this short 200-meter suspension bridge has borne witness to many sweet memories. In fact, there is more than one bridge at Bitan. Because the steel cables of the suspension bridge were worn down by time, the concrete Bitan Bridge was constructed downstream in 1956, and with the completion of the North-South Expressway in 1997, a large arch bridge was added, giving Bitan three bridges across different eras, creating a unique scenic view. This bridge is known as "the first light sculpture suspension bridge in Taiwan that dances to music," employing a total of 17,472 LED lights, with brilliant reflections lighting up the riverside, enhancing the enchanting moonlit scenery of Bitan. Bitan at night becomes increasingly beautiful, as the suspension bridge is adorned with colorful lights, resembling a rainbow across the water, making it the top choice for couples visiting Bitan to enjoy the beautiful lake and mountain views hand in hand.
